Transwest SAAB fire
What exactly happened this week with Transwest's Saab in YPA? Fire engines and sirens going off all over the place, but no one seems to know.
Just spoke with an engineer "in the know" and he said that on take off, the crew heard a bang or bangs and the engine lost power, along with smoke. They rejected and had to evacuate pax off the runway. Engineers were working on it and thought they had the problem fixed but when they tried an high speed taxi, it did it again. Maintenance having a little trouble finding the problem and may have to change the engine. That's all i know.
Nothing new for TWA. I heard that they scrimped and now they had to put in a new engine. so much for increasing wages or spending money on pilots. Maybe if they looked forward enough and spent some money planning they wouldn't have these problems.
if there were not so many idiots in the world, it wouldn't be nessesary to have instructions on shampoo bottles

From PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
STAY THE HELL AWAY.....
They have kids in PA making less than min wage... they have yet to change there pay scales to reflect the new min wage of SK. Oh and go there if you like having a cell phone and not being paid to be on call 24/7!
STAY AWAY!

Duffman: Hey Duff lovers! Does anyone in this bar loooove Duff?
Carl: Hey, it's Duffman!
Lenny: Newsweek said you died of liver failure.
Duffman: Duffman can never die, only the actors who play him. Ooh yeah!

Transwest operates under federal jurisdiction not provincial. Therefore they can pay whatever the hell they want. Doesn't make low wages right, but that is the way is it. For the record though, apprentice engineers did receive a decent raise recently. Although senior engineers wages stayed the same. Probably not the smartest move mangement ever made. Just a few disgruntled senior guys.
I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness.

Bite the Curb? You'll have to explain that one to me? My request for a "Saskie slang for dummies" book is still outstanding at Chapters. They tell me the guy who is supposed to author it, is busy finding out who published Saskatchewan's only known book "gone with the wind"!

I think that is flatlander slang for "turn your back to us and lay down, 'cause that is the only way we can kick your a$$"Vicstick wrote:Bite the Curb? You'll have to explain that one to me?
What blows me away is that the crew flying TWA's flagship does what they did to that engine (and yes, you TWA lurkers/supporters know exactly what I am talking about, turbines don't like when you push the levers back and forth like you are rowing a canoe, they tend to stall...) and are still permitted to fly the airplane, sounds to me like they are really hard up for pilots which isn't at all surprising considering what they offer as a wage. Extremely poor decision making on the part of the crew that day, makes me think it is a pre-requisite for employment there. Seen this before, wouldn't be surprising for history to repeat itself soon with the calibre of people they hire to fly.
