How Low?
I used to fly CF Twin Hueys over hill and dale at 10 feet. The guys in the following link are lower than that in a Sukhoi fighter:

The lowest flying I ever got paid to do was applying maneb on potatoes, thousands and thousands of acres of flying with the wheels down in the rows...or at basically 0 feet.
Also the best flying job in aviation as far as flying goes.

Of course it is real, some of the flying done by the Russian pilots in air displays is unbelieavable, that is only a simple low pass.

I think it's fake:
For the aircraft to be in that attitude, it would have to be going pretty dang quick - quick enough to cause more blurring in the background or foreground. If it was taken with a super high speed setting, the picture wouldn't be as crisp. Also, the aircraft seems to be quite close to the edge of the runway (or is it a taxiway?) - you'd think he'd want to be on the centreline.
I'm not saying these guys can't or don't do this often, this picture just looks too good.

It also houses some sensors for the Radar Warning Receiver among others.cyxe wrote:I think thats the brake parachute container. Not sure.Canus Chinookus wrote:what's that 'thing' sticking out the tail?
I highly doubt that Airliners.net would put up a fake... I'm sure they researched it throughly if they had doubts. Besides... Russian pilots are nuts!

It's not a fake. If it were, the airliners.net staff would have spotted it. I read the aviation photography forum from time to time, and there was a member there who had submitted a photo of an airliner taking off. On the bottom of the photo, there was a rabbit sitting in the grass and he decided to 'edit out' the rabbit. I'm a photoshop pro, and this is a very easy edit to do. Well, the airliners.net staff could tell it was done, and he was banned from posting on that site for two weeks because of it. Photos submitted there go through at least 2 screening phases before they're accepted; they're pros as spotting that stuff. Even my photo acceptance rate is only 51% of those submitted, so I know how discerning (in a frustrating way) they are about the photos they accept.

Yeah, I'd second that. Airliners.net is VERY anal about their pictures, and they have pros to spot the fakes. Although they really like pictures of seats for some reason.
I'd say it's real. Fast shutter speed, and the motion blur is seen in the background, not the plane. I'd take it real easy on the pull up though...

All I can figure out is there has to be a lot of non pilots here arguing about something so God Damn simple as a low fly past at an airport...like what in fu.k are they going to hit?

I'm with you here, Cat. Yet, until somebody's done it a few times, it looks like something special. Unbelievable, even.Cat Driver wrote:What is the big deal about low flying? Cat
At the risk of stating the obvious: everything in flying takes a little bit of skill combined with a lot of effective practice.
Now, everybody, go out flat hatting on your next flight. Spring's here. Have some fun! *
