Consider Reversing a Selection if an Associated Problem Happens Soon After

Post by pelmet »

It might work more quickly than the 'You must always use the checklist' idea so many harp about........

"C-FTPN, a Textron Aviation (Cessna) U206F operated by Eon Airborne Inc. was conducting aerial
survey work North and Northeast of the Lethbridge, AB (CYQL) with 2 crew members on board.
The majority of the survey work was being conducted at an altitude of approximately 500 feet
above ground level (AGL). Just over 2 hours into the flight, the crew switched fuel tanks from the
right tank to left tank. Shortly after the selection, the engine (TELEDYNE CONTINENTAL, IO-520-
F) began to run rough, with an associated significant power loss, and the aircraft immediately
started losing altitude. Before the flight crew could complete the appropriate emergency checklist
procedure, the aircraft was at 100 feet AGL, and the pilot elected to prepare the aircraft for a forced
landing in an open field. A successful forced landing was completed. There were no injuries to the
flight crew, and the aircraft was not damaged. Subsequent external examination of the aircraft
showed blue fuel staining down the upper left side of the fuselage."
