How Much Space from a Restricted Area by ATC

Post by pelmet »

It appears to be 5 miles and they have an automatic warning. Interesting......

The Canwest Aviation Beech King Air B200CGT, C-GLUF, was operating as CWA922 from
Medicine Hat (CYXH), AB to Calgary (CYYC), AB. After departure from CYXH the flight crew
contacted the Edmonton Centre Calgary Enroute controller as the aircraft was climbing to FL200
direct to EBGAL. The controller identified the aircraft and cleared CWA922 to FL200. The
controller’s situation display indicated an airspace warning for the CYR230 restricted airspace. The
controller instructed CWA922 to turn left 20 degrees for vectors around the restricted airspace
before being cleared direct to EBGAL. As the aircraft approached the CYR230 restricted airspace
horizontal separation was reduced to 4.7 statute miles where 5 statute miles is required.
