kash evacuations
Just wondering if anybody knew what companies are doing the flying for the latest evacuations. I read an article saying there were Dash 8's and Twin Otters making flights to Cochrane and Greenstone (is that Geraldton?) Just curious.
We heard Air Inuit's Dash 8's and the Ontario Government's Twin Otter going back and forth yesterday...I guess there are a few hundred people out already, and a few hundred more to go. Seems like Kash just gets hit by one thing after another...
Swerved.
Swerved.
In a world full of people, only some want to fly. Isn't that crazy?

Oh dear...I fear I may have started this. I was in Kasechewan this past week in support of the local pelts for pops program.
Well, I attended one of the many famous Kash discos, and may have instituted these floods during an accidental but well executed Rain Dance during Abba's "Take a Chance on Me"

To the people of Kasechewan, I say lets move this party to Dryden. I hear there is a mill for rent.

2 air cree dash 8's , voyageur dash 7 and . G1, each making 2 to three trips from Fort Albany to here in Thunder bay...busy night for us tonight....and more trips planned for tomorrow.
Hey wait a minute who's paying for this? Not the evil whiteman that is taking all their land....perhaps we should just say F'em like the Six Nations are doing to the rest of us.
You pay'em for fly on big metal bird or you'em suit'em up scuba tanks!

What part of your personal life is in such dire failure that would make you say such a distasteful, hateful thing?N2 wrote:Hey wait a minute who's paying for this? I can't remember what the first of three ZKE evacuations during the past 12 months was for, but the second one last fall was for alleged poor water quality. The poor water quality, by the way, was as a direct result of the failure of the reserve's water people to maintain their equipment properly. They were evacuated because they f**ked things up themselves.Wigwam Willie wrote:What part of your personal life is in such dire failure that would make you say such a distasteful, hateful thing?N2 wrote:Hey wait a minute who's paying for this? That went largely unreported after the fact, because it's much more popular to blame Ottawa, and the last 15 generations of white people for their problems, and it is politically incorrect to ever suggest that aboriginals take some responsibility for their actions.
I think N2 merely voices the opinion of many who are frustrated and/or tired of seeing billions of dollars flow to aboriginals, and yet they remain in such a sorry state, always with their hands out for more, always blaming someone else, and apparently never doing anything to change the situation from their side.
New house? I'll burn it when I'm done, and they'll build me a new one.
New boat? If it sinks, they'll get me a new one.
Get a job, or restore the old ways of life? Why bother when I can use the free money from Ottawa to buy chips, pop, and fried chicken.
You can only blame 350yr old land claim disputes for your troubles for so long.
Snag states:
That will never happen because one community is Catholic and the other is Protestant and they can't get along.they should shut that place down and move them over 5 miles to Fort Albany. Those guys never complain...

CLguy:
They're natives...originally they're neither. So one missionary went to one community and one to the other. I say, send in a buddhist or a rabbi, solve the problem...just not one of them crazy Jehovas. That will never happen because one community is Catholic and the other is Protestant and they can't get along.
Let me get this right, they didn't like the religion that was being practiced in Albany so decided to move across the river and start their own reserve? I guess that would be ok except for the fact that the Canadian taxpayer had to foot the bill for the new reserve!!!! Wouldn't it have been alot cheaper to just build another church in Albany??? Another example of our fine government at work!!!! God this makes me sick!!!!
Wouldn't it be cheaper to relocate the reserve? They moved Summer Beaver (was it Summer Beaver, I think it was..) because of "bad spirits", and ZKE has "angry water spirits" that visit every spring......
Couple of hundred million ought to do it....then furnish all the new homes at Ikea? Or the Art Shop? Dependant on tastes. Far cheaper than the gun registry. Really, how many homes we talking about? Couple hundred, tops? Find a new place...nice waterfront....I'm thinking, Muskoka? Maybe five miles of waterfront on Lake Joe? Yah, that's the ticket!

Errr...Doc, wasn't it Long Dog that they moved? AFAIK, Summer Beaver is, and has been on Nibinamik Lake for years. They moved Summer Beaver (was it Summer Beaver, I think it was..) because of "bad spirits",
By the by, does anyone still operate a 185 out of there?
Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

The problem is, that we all know that we're going to be flipping the bill for EVERY time this comes up again. Whether they screw up their water supply, get flooded or whatever.
If it's a decision between the bi-anual evacuation of the community and building them all new showhomes with the Martha Stewart touch in a place where there won't be any trouble, I'd say go for it. It will be cheaper in the long run. Someone has to go there and say, "What do you people want? We'll give you anything, so long as you stop relying on us for further support, and pay your own way". I say go for the lump sum payoff.

I say just cut them off. When is enough enough? At some point they have to take responsibility for themselves. I think more and more people are getting pretty sick of the whole situation. (see Caladonia incident) But I digress. This is after all an aviation site. This topic is quickly getting away from anything aviation related.....
Snag...Bang on! Give them all $250K homes and 75K a year per family, and nothing else...it would save us a bloody fortune!! Oh, and a ticket on Air Canada (there, back to aviation!) to YYZ once a year, for a week's stay in a downtown hotel! We'd still be WAY ahead. And here's a novel idea: They pay income tax, and property tax out of the 75K!!! There ya go...problem solved!

Throw in a case of chips per week and you've got my attention. Plus a week in Toronto? There are some sub-urbs that are starting to look like Cat Lake...home sweet home. It's always nice to have a place to hang your hat and an old car to set on fire even when you're far from the reservation.
