I can hardly wait to start Mrs. Airtids on her float rating. She's gonna love it. Andrew, the fella we've hired for the summer to do the bulk of the float instruction and charter flying actually turned and asked me what the hell he was doing there 'cause I flew so well. Kissing the boss's ass this early on in the season is a sure indicator of his many years of experience!!
For those who are curious, the plane performed better than I expected. The 2870's are definitely the way to go (I'd only flown 2960s previously, well, and 2000's) for this plane. It hopped right out of the water, bit of a roll onto the step, and then a short acceleration once I'd found the 'sweet spot' which is actually quite small, way smaller than the 2960's. It will be interesting to see how much of a load we can put on her, but I'm pleasantly surprised so far.
Many thanks to my engineers Cory and Ken, as well as Jim at Seaplanes West and all the other folks with helpful advice about rigging, etc. You guy's absolutely made my day yesterday!! I may never get back in the twin.
