Does one actually have to go to a flight school for a float rating?
When I got mine, in 1981, it was done by the company I worked for.
I think I needed 5 hours and 3 or four solo circuits. I had about 500 hours on a wheel/ski 185 and did the conversion when the ice went off the lake.
Maybe the requirements have changed. I thought that anyone with "X" hours on type can give anyone else a rating on floats.

You can call Whitehorse Flight Training (867) 668-7407. They will know.

big river is no more as owners retired after 25+ yrs in ft. smith
rellaince is a possibility but they are busy with the tourist stuffin the summer they might do a rating for working the dock at the end of season
ursus used to have a maule to do them not sure now
and the bare bones min's for the rating are 7.0 hrs
most insurance companies want 100 time on type or better before

seaplane rating
From what I hear, a lot of people make the trip down to the Edmonton area. Allison Air Service is out of Cooking Lake airport and they do the ratings on the PA18 Supercub. Great company. Look them up http://www.allisonair.com.
