"SKYHAWK C-GABC" NOT "C172 C-GABC"

I don't know about you guys but I think its time to get rid of the saying "This is C-172 GABC". Nobody says "PA-28 GABC" they say Arrow or Warrior GABC.

There are some clowns out there doing some pretty dumb things. I would say that this is a fairly trivial point. Besides, not all C172's are 'Skyhawks'. My POH talks about C-172 and the Skyhawk model.

If your relatively new to aviation...just working on your private or CPL and little things like this get on your nerves...get out while you can. There are ALOT bigger and more stressful things in this industry that will likely give you an aneurysm and kill you.

If you have been in this industry for a while ( forgive me but I doubt it ) and this is the worst thing on your plate....smile and deal with it. Also as Spokes mentioned not all 150's are commuters and not all 172's are skyhawks.

Nothing bugs me more than the pumped up guy with an american accent, "blah blah blah tower, this is SKYHAWK CGABC". Says it like he flying he F18 or something. Just sounds way to cheezy!! Stick to the old "this is Cessna 172" phrase...

ATC is to blame for some. I can think of a few:
DH-125, HS-125, is a Dominee
CV580, CV640, is a Cosmopolitan, or Metropolitan, depending on model.
A Bell 205 is a Hughie.
Any 172 IS a Skyhawk.
Our Beech 90, is a Beech 9L
A Beech 18, is an Expediter.
A Cessna 310, is twin cessna...they go on, but that's just the ones I can come up with, without several beers!

You got to have something better to do on a Sunday afternoon than worry about ATC and how to check in. They are all computerized and can look it up if itt bothers them. Doc have an other drink

When I was doing my licence I was taxiing back to the hangar after a lesson and I hear the following on the radio in a thick southern drawl:

Yank: "Prince George tower N123ABC 10.2 miles south through 4.5 inbound for landing."
Tower: "N123ABC say aircraft type"
Yank: "Cessna 182, 300 horse"

You could hear the controller stop and compose himself before replying. I nearly had to stop the plane I was laughing so hard. If I was more on the ball I would have said something like "Yeah, and this is Cessna 150, 100 horse FTUC clear of the apron"

I don't think its a yankee thing. But when you live near the border and you here alot of N65476 blaa blaa, its soooo much easier to just hear skylane or skyhawk instead of more numbers. just like "KATANA GABC"

Hey "Capt" whats with the be cool factor....

I think it goes without saying that American registrations are already full of numbers without adding 172, 182, 1-niner-5, etc before the abreviated last few numbers of the reg.

I'd forget worrying about American registrations and worry about Americans and their uncontrolled aerodrome procedures in Canada. Joining right base here, straight in there...

The americans coming into our airport are pretty good, frequently asking fss for advice and if they are doing everything right. Some regulars come into the terminal and ask where we prefer they park, run up, etc. just so they can stay out of our way. I really appreciate that.

Anyway, who cares what someone says as long as they get the info out there? One of the 206's I fly says "Skywagon" on the column (it actually is a skywagon)..... If I had said that, someone would say "geez, that's a stationair, what a tool" and a rant on avcanada would soon ensue.

People call Cessna's by their model numbers because their names are GAY.

Chancellor, Golden Eagle, Conquest.......Skyhawk.

^ duchess, queen air, ovation, marquise, eucreil ^ Lots of gay names for nice aircraft.

seriously, what does chancellor, golden eagle, conquest, skyhawk, ovation or duchess have to do with homosexuality?

methinks some people here need some couch time with their shrinks to sort out some of their "issues"

To whoever started this thread, you need to take a vacation you are way to high strung

Instead of a Swearingen, or a Fairchild/Swearingen or a Fairchild or a Fairchild/Dornier, why not just call it a Texas Tampon or a Turbo Dildo. Most has to do with wake turbulence and/or Nav Canada fees. Although they look similar, there is a world of difference between an SW3, Metro 11 @ 12,500 lbs MTOW and an SW4, Metro 111 @ either 14,500 or 16,000 MTOW. Nav Canada fees are quite a bit higher for the 111.

I fly a DA-20 C1 Eclipse. Every controller I've talked to tells others that we are a Katana. Not that I care about the difference in the name from the controllers point of view, who cares.

But from another pilots point of view the Eclipse can climb and cruise one hell of a lot faster than a Katana. It just leads to poorer situational awareness.

But If there wasn't a performance difference I could care less. They both look the same anyway.

Not sure about the "gay" part, but I agree with your sentiments!

Wankers.

Honestly, I'd RATHER have you say Cessna 172, PA22 or whatever, especially if I'm not expecting you to call (like when you're not on a flight plan). Then I don't have to search the memory banks for what the heck a Skyhawk or Tripacer is, so I can write it down on the data strip.

Wasn't Me said "They are all computerized and can look it up if it bothers them." Sometimes the computer that has that info is not easily accessible to the person you are talking to. Some places (FSS at least) run two or three systems on one monitor, and switch between processors when needed. If someone is using another application on the monitor that shares that program, it may be a while before the person working air/ground could get the info.

Dudes say the shortest thing you can. Civilian pilots in general talk way too much on the radio and do not adhere to comm brevity at all. Nobody wants to hear life story on the radio, especially if it's busy. Don't worry if your callsign sounds gay...you probably sound gay.

A 310 is a 'Sky Knight' - get it right people. If south american countries can call it that and have it a part of their air force, then multi-ifr students should be able to call it that too, at $300+ an hour.

whats the story on the whole ident thing anyways, i don't see what the big deal is - if you file under a name... why cant you have it?

Okay, why does it matter? Cub, 150, is knowing the name or model # going to make the sky any safer??

"i'm a friggin plane and I'm at location X, please tell me plane #2 that's heading towards me to move..."

But no, you guys want,

"plane X, what's your type?"
"Plane X is a 150"
-plane b is getting closer
"150, standby"
"plane B, what's your type"
"plane b is a cub"
"150 descend, dive, move"
*static*

"plane A, move, plane b is heading towards you"

But whatever... you all know best....

Didn't they have a show in the US where the pilot was flying a "sky night" but they didn't even use the right plane? Or it might have been the other way around, the old guys probably know what I'm talking about...
