Can anyone comment on this line of work?...Does this actually work? and not to mention:

'Job consists of seeding cumulonimbus storm clouds, flying through thunderstorms, in order to mitigate hail damage. Strong stomachs and great IMC flyers will enjoy this line of work'

Sounds wild....do you think they will have troubles finding anyone?
Pay sched etc...

We have idiots in the market, but really can we have that many people that would want to do this??

Sched??? Dependant on wx, so you're probably "on-call" 24/7...

Pay better be good when all you're doing is flying in thunderstorms....

I know a friend of mine from college that does this job every summer... I personally wouldn't go for it, but to each its own. He says he loves it, but well, he's a bit of a character... If you want, next time I talk to him I'll ask him some details... what would you like to know?
Cheers,
DNB

Just wondering how it is allowed.

At what stage do these aircraft call it quits mid-air due to thousands of hours in Thunderstorms....

I've done it two years ago and I had a blast. Its one of those things that you're never gona forget. Terry Krauss is the guy to fly with. You'll learn a lot and you'll have a better respect about the weather. Go for it if you got the job offer.
Good luck

PA-31T;

Curious what your expeirence with WMI was like. Wondering about the pay, schedule (on call?) and general working conditions. Any free time to spend with your family if they tag along? Looks like they fly US registered aircraft (they are a US company); do they help out with the licence conversion if you need it? I might be able to take some time off work this summer and thought about doing a contract like this. Just wanted to get some info incase they call. Thanks.

I haven't worked for weather modification for 6 years now. I worked the Alberta Hail Suppression project for a few seasons and am very familiar with this company and this particular project.

All the aircraft are N registered. Two of the aircraft will be based in Calgary with the other up in Red Deer.

If you want some more info send me a PM.

I call Bull****. TK isn't even a pilot. :? Great guy, but he doesn't fly the planes. At least not when I worked there.

As for the job itself, it's not a time builder, but the flying experience you'll get is second to none and you'll never get the chance to do this type of flying anywhere else. Learning curve is pretty steep on this one.

Babel Fish is right in that this job does not offer a lot of flight time in a season. If I remember correctly around 80 hours a project in Alberta was probably the average for most of the guys.

I wouldn't consider myself to be an idiot or crazy  . The work if done correctly is very safe and at times a hell of a lot of fun. It was very common to have over a week of very little flying filled with a week of non-stop work.

This job has many interesting challenges and is really a lot of fun. Calgary in my opinion is the place to be based if you get on.

You will get tied to your pager or cell phone for the summer and could be called out at anytime.

If you want more info send me a PM.
