I am really happy to hear the Pilot survived. The pictures don’t look good.

Hahaha. It's like vultures. "The beast is not even a carcus, yet the vultures are circling". Gotta love Canadian pilots.Loading... wrote: ↑Tue Apr 18, 2023 6:38 am Im glad everybody is ok.

On a more serious note, glad nobody was killed and wishing the injured individual a speedy recovery.
I always found it odd that RCMP chose to go with a single engine PC-12 in the North, not to hint this incident was because of that. I had the chance to fly one in Nunavut, many moons ago. Nope. No thanks. I'm glad I stuck to a King Air instead. The PC12 is a fantastic plane, in Southern Canada / USA / Europe. I just don't think it belongs in such remote areas, even with its proven track record. Its STOL capabilities are impressive though, and that's probably why the RCMP opted to go with it.
Again, glad things weren't worse...
Re: RCMP crash
Another fatality-free PC-12 crash.
Can’t say the same about the King Air.
Glad the pilot is safe.

Re: RCMP crash
Ah come on. Plenty of King Airs have crashed with no fatalities.
As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

"In the release, police do not believe the crash involved criminality."

Re: RCMP crash
Odd that they posted an ad for the job about a week before the crash.
And in the article they never used the word pilot. They just said one employee was ok and the only one on board.
Odd use of words all around.

Re: RCMP crash
"The employee who was involved is a special constable," said Const. Carlie McCann of the Whitehorse RCMP.
McCann explained the pilot was part of RCMP's air services, which transports anything from people to evidence, usually to and from remote detachments.
"Pilots in the RCMP air services unit are special constables, so that means that they have many of the same powers as police officers in terms of the skills and the training that they have," said McCann.
Did you read the article?
Re: RCMP crash
I'm pretty sure that part was added after. The article was very short when I first read it.
But I may have missed it.

Re: RCMP crash
Does the RCMP always fly single Pilot?
Always fly a stable approach - it's the only stability you'll find in this business

Re: RCMP crash
It’s a Pilatus…. Yes the RCMP has been flying these single pilot for ages.
Re: RCMP crash
It's likely the original quote was from someone who had no clue, but wanted to get something out there. The updated info makes more sense.
Re: RCMP crash
I am hearing that it was the Yellowknife based PC-12.
Only the pilot on board and she is ok.
As to what happened - not much is being said. Sounds like maybe a departure, some sort of failure, and a return to landing that went wrong. The aircraft is destroyed, ended up on its back with the wings and tail torn off.

Re: RCMP crash
Holy crap. I'm glad she's okay. What could cause that? Clipping a wing tip on the ground and cartwheeling? I recall running out of aileron authority occasionally in severe crosswind landings on the PC-12. Not a good feeling to be at full opposite aileron and still rolling the other way.
Re: RCMP crash
There is a photo on this site- not much left of the aircraft.

Hard to believe she walked away from that.

A better photo from the TSB.

It looks like it ended up beside the threshold of 31L just before taxiway Echo on an access road.

Yikes. That's balled up pretty good.

Re: RCMP crash
Best wishes for a speedy recovery for the pilot. I've heard the voice of this pilot many times, always professional, I hope to hear it again soon.

Not if you are trying to Justify your job or budget to a dim-witted Canadian population. I thought the same.
