Hey everyone. I've been lurking on this site for a while and decided to finally post. I'm trying to figure out which flight school would be the best bet for my career as a Pilot. I have my private and live and work part time in the GTA and have narrowed down the choices to two:
1) Durham Flight Centre
Proffesional Pilot Progam(Centennial College)
Start date Dec 1,06- Approx July1,07
Cost $26,500 All Inclusive(Checkrides, Tests, books, etc.)
121 Hrs Cessna 172
26 Hrs PiperAztec(Twin)
7 Hrs Elite PCATD
CMIFR, Groundschool, Unlimited Ground briefing
This program is Mon-Fri 7-5
Lots of groundschool, Good a/c condition, nice high powered twin
Get to tag along with other students in class for cross country flights
Oshawa airport is controled but not that busy
Chances of getting on after completion of program as an instructor
not very good. The school is not as busy as Brampton or Buttonville due to it's location
I believe the structured enviorment and quality of training at this school to be very good.
P.S. The Full program is 1 yr and includes the private . Total cost $35,000. Lot better than Bramton and Toronto Airways certificate progams which run around $50,000-$55,000
2) AriBen (Florida)
Cost $38,000 U.S ( All Inclusive)
2 yr program( J1 Visa)
200 Hrs Beech Duchess( Twin Engine)
22 Hrs Cessna 172
No Sims
CMIFR, CFI,CFII,MEI(All Instructor Ratings) Groundschool, briefings
The program takes 6-10 months. Once completed you have a job as a flight instructor. The obvious drawbacks are the price, Huricanes, FAA license that need to be converted back to Canadian etc.
Pros: Tons of MIFR time. Will end up with about 1000 Total 800 Multi
Just wondering what everyone thougt about these two options. Thanks for the help.

I don't know about DFC personally but the quote you are given for training programs is an estimate only..it's always going to be based on a pilot's personal skill level in the end.master switch wrote:dfc: 1 year? ask them to prove theyev completed at least 1 person in 1 year and it didnt cost them more than 35G
