June 2022 Canadian government reported national inflation of 8.1%
April 2023 4.4%, inflation reversed from going down to up
WestJet's new CBA has wage increases at 3% & 2.5% after the first year.
Air Canada's current CBA has wage increases 2%.
Your thoughts?
Actual inflation could be higher than government reported
Housing prices have doubled
Taxes rising
Does annual CBA increases of 3% stay head of inflation?

Longer term, 3% should be enough to counter inflation. But barely. The Bank of Canada targets 2% but it's been an impossible challenge with Justin's constant meddling and that insane carbon "punishment tax".
Remember you are not "progressing one bit" if all you are doing is "floating" with the COL. Problem is, the effects are compounded, so it's better to "front load" any increase at year one. Keeping up with 3+% certainly beats sinking like 2.5% and 2% surely will.
Rates that low embedded in any contract are first off a serious risk, and at minimum wasted opportunity. ACPA pilots were absolutely crazy to accept a ten year deal at 2% yearly with "zero sum bargaining reopeners" every three years......it was as stupid as stupid could possibly get.

Inflation is by design to crush everyone. The point is, to keep wages below inflation.
What is the point in a carbon tax, if you are just going to give everyone more money to pay for gas. The carbon tax, and inflation is supposed to crush everyone, make life expensive and force people to make cuts to quality of life. Less vacation, less vehicles, less home to have to heat. Those who vote liberal policies must believe the only way forward is to crush the next generations so they won’t be able to live large like they did.
Why are people complaining about costs? We should be celebrating our reduced ability to use and abuse the planet. We should celebrate that it’s too expensive to have a family, plus kids are just future carbon emitting beings, so don’t have them.
This is the way. Until everyone has had enough of JT don’t expect any gain to quality of life. Inflation will remain above 3 percent.
