Fastest Airline to Upgrade on 737NG?

Post by Flyinghorologist »

Hi all, for the foreseeable future who has the fastest upgrade times from right to left seat of the 737NG (or really any narrowbody jets)? Planning to hopefully get on the 737 someday soon.

Thanks in advance.

It depends on your experience. Sunwing, and Lynx are hiring direct entry captains, Flair will be again by Christmas. That's about as fast as it gets. If you don't have any 705 jet experience then Sunwing is likely the slowest because they require 2000 hours on a 50+ tonne jet, by the time you get that, they will be merged with WestJet ALPA and you'll go to the bottom of the list based on date of hire. I don't know what Lynx wants for upgrade experience, but at Flair it's around 4000 total time, with one initial and one recurrent PPC to bid for upgrade. That doesn't automatically guarantee success in the command program, but it gets you a ticket to the interview.

Don’t be surprised, he has to keep hyping his type IV airline pyramid scheme.

Oh yes definitely Flair. The only airline in the world offering leaves of absence right now.

Explain what I said that you disagree with? Oh right, you just like to attack me personally because you disagree with my opinions. Have you read the Unifor 7378 Collective Bargaining Agreement? Do you refute my claim that once Sunwing pilots are assimilated into the WestJet ALPA collective, quick upgrades will vanish and any pilots upgraded in the past decade will face downgrade?

Guy asked a question, I'm the only one to try to answer the question, multiple WestJet pilots attack me for it, yet provide no answer of their own. Have to love Av-WestJet-canada.

I didn't attack you personally- I said you don't have any idea what you're talking about and, based on your posts, I maintain that. The last merger that went BOTL was, I think in the late 1960's when Air BC bought out a small float operator. Please list me two mergers where upgraded pilots faced downgrade post-merger (SWA-Air Tran is the only one). Every other one has had no-bump/no-flush provisions. In fact, the WJ CA2 LOU has no-bump/no-flush provisions enshrined. SWG captains earned their positions.

Yes I've read the SWG CA, which won't be in force by the time an operational merger occurs.

You're getting attacked for providing answers on subjects that you don't know anything about. Do you hear me spout off about working conditions at Flair? No. Because I know nothing about it.

This is a sensitive topic and the last thing anyone needs is a talking head spewing false information and getting people riled up.

This depends on your current experience. Care to share?

If you have moderate experience (5000TT with jet and/or command time) then the answer is Flair or Lynx if you're looking to only fly a 737 since they hire direct entry captains. Any narrowbody? Add Porter to that mix. Air Canada is about as fast as it's probably ever been but that depends on join date.

Hope that helps.
