Re: What to expect in first week of GS?
Things are very fluid but my first week was pretty simple. First day was introductions and a bunch of slide presentations. The big wigs come in and say hi.
Next day was uniform fittings and ID picture. That was it. After that I think we were pretty much off on Wednesday and then got into some in-class stuff on Thursday and Friday.
There's nothing too complicated in the first week. You'll have to make your way down to the Island for the Monday though but after that you're either at Pearson or at home.

..if you have a RAIC be sure to hand it in where you’re leaving and get receipt so your new one is quick and easy, book an appointment with YYZ pass office as soon as you possibly can…training with a yellow pass is a PITA, bring bank account info if HR didn’t get it already,
Make sure your passport is valid…Paris could be your sim city. Have fun..but the firehose is gonna hurt!

I believe you can hand it in on your own during your initial appointment; it's typically a faster process.Timetoflyagain wrote: ↑Wed Jun 21, 2023 10:05 pm ..if you have a RAIC be sure to hand it in where you’re leaving and get receipt so your new one is quick and easy, book an appointment with YYZ pass office as soon as you possibly can…training with a yellow pass is a PITA, bring bank account info if HR didn’t get it already,

Just make sure you confirm with your previous company this is ok. If I do this, at the appointment, I take a photo of the receipt and forward it to my previous employer to confirm.

Come excited. First day is pretty relaxed at the island, plan for a social at the Wheatsheaf in the evening. Dress for the day at the office - you'll likely be meeting the big wigs.
I believe technical ground school is online, but there will be the odd element in person at Pearson - either at a hangar or hotel.
Uniforms are organized out of the island.
Initial SIM training is out of Paris, but only after some lab and GFS SOP training. Paris sim is 11 days, 2 travel, 3 on, 3 off, 3 on.
I think we are down to 12 weeks from date of hire to line if things go smoothly.
All we ask is you put in your half, study and come prepared to learn. While we have a supportive learning environment, there are limits to the amount of support we can provide.
Good luck and welcome to the team.

Are hotels provided for the 1st week in-person events? HR said the 2nd and 3rd week are all virtual - so you can be back home. Any updates to what you know? Coming in from out of town.cjp wrote: ↑Thu Jun 22, 2023 4:03 pmCome excited. First day is pretty relaxed at the island, plan for a social at the Wheatsheaf in the evening. Congrats on joining the team! If you are YYZ based, unfortunately hotels are not provided during training. Training is split between virtual and in person.pilotguy53 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 13, 2023 9:18 amAre hotels provided for the 1st week in-person events? Nice thing, you will have commuting privileges from Day 1 so that should assist in giving you the ability to travel between Toronto and your home in between training events.
I would reach out to the Chiefs to get the paperwork started for the commuting.

I've heard Paris and also Geneva. Is our simulator over-capacity?

Running 5 slots a day as often as possible and recurrent sms have started to appear. The amount of training that is happening big is absurd.
Paris and they are working on securing one in Geneva yes.

If you have a raic receipt and it’s not a renewal it should be pretty easy for you to get an appointment. Personally I’d wait, all this gets discussed in class. But if you’re super keen, sure, get an appointment. You can always cancel it. Either way you’ll need signing authority

Re: What to expect in first week of GS?
The welcome email that gets sent out to all the new hires mentions signings can be done on the first day during breaks. So it's not a bad idea to book an appointment provided you can get the signatures on day one.
That's what I did and it worked like a charm. SR was able to sign it electronically as well which made things easier. He signed Monday and my appointment was Tuesday afternoon.
Cheers!
