Freelance CFI - searching for one in area
Hello - long time lurker, but first time poster here.
I am looking for a freelance CFI to work with me and build time, focusing on float flying, and safety. I'm located in Haliburton area in the summer and Montreal in other season. Stanhope airport is nearby (CND4)
Option to use my plane or pay to train on your plane on a flexible schedule, but I'd like flying days to be dedicated and sessions of 3hours or more to move through the training.
My issue is the nearest formal flight school is a bit of a commute for me and I'd prefer a freelance person I think over a 'school' for building my time.
Haven't seen a lot posts asking looking for something like this and I'm quickly realizing the community of aviators has a wealth of knowledge based on people each other know or have met along the way.
Any tips or advice is appreciated.

The quality of instruction depends mostly on the quality of the instructor, not whether they work for a school or freelance. If you want good instruction then my advice is to find the right instructor wherever they may be and rearrange your schedule so you can visit them. That is, you may have to make a choice between "nearby" and "good". To help entice an instructor to respond, it might be helpful also if you mentioned what airplane you are able to provide, what licence(s) you hold, and a rough idea of your experience level.

The first option is legal, the second one is most likely illegal. You can't train on a freelance instructor's personal airplane (with some exceptions that don't apply here).
As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:

It's really not clear that to "build time, focusing on float flying, and safety" would count as training at all; so it would probably be fine to do it in an instructor's own airplane. The instructor's insurance company might have an interest, but that's different.
Similarly, the OP might feel that he doesn't need someone with an instructor rating and a suitably experienced pilot might do just as well or better.

I know guys that do float ratings on their own personal airplanes. I would never touch that. Besides the CARs remuneration/training issue, the insurance is an even bigger nut to crack. A instructor rating is really good for teaching people new things, but if you just want tips on float flying, there's lots of experienced CPL float pilots around who can show you the ropes.
