Pay bumps twice in six months. Cool. Significant increases on the dash side.

It just makes Jazz pay look even worse (as if that were possible).

The exodus will expand exponentially, with training pilots at the front of the line. At least one carrier recognizes value.

Current AC bargaining strategy working well……?

Porter plan to hire 1200 pilots for the next 3 years.
14 tails of E2 as today, plan to have 27 tails by end of 2023.
Hiring DEC Dash and respect their YOS in pay from other operators.
More pay for training CA/check pilots/ACP.
New E2 base opening in YOW/YHZ
Reduce MMG from 80 to 75

With this new pay scale, jazz is going to lose more people than ever, especially the E1 and Dash on type

Last one out the door don’t forget to turn out the lights.

Porter is a case study in being responsive to changes in the industry. And fully recognizes that the growth strategy requires experienced pilots, and pilots with extra skill sets and is willing to pay for these skills!

Meanwhile, over at the red team….

Yup. Paralysis and dysfunction.

All plays well for Porter. Jazz = Porter PIT (Q4/E-jet). Then add recognition for training and checking responsibilities. No air carrier can run (especially during times of new pilot enrolment) without the critical pieces of LTC/LCP/ACP.

You can complain about how the industry is changing or you can accept it and deal with it. Porter has chosen the latter.

So leaving aside some downsides such as grooming, I can appreciate that Porter realizes the market forces and is finally starting to pay its pilots appropriate wages... Everyone talked about westjet setting the bar, but, off the top of my head, from the initial E2 YR1 CA wage of which I think was around 121-122k a year, to now 171k, that represents a raise of 50k, or approx 41%, in less then 2 years. Dash 8 YR1 FO wages were around 42k from what I remember, they are now 65k, an approx raise of 55%, in again, about a span of less then 2 years I believe... The 35% raise smooth mentioned is from the 48k they were getting, which was raised from 42k in the last year.

Yea, I think it's Porter that has actually raised the bar, in a quiet manner, rather then Westjet

I commented in the Jazz thread that some consider WJ as setting the new bar... Yea no, E2 YR 1 CA intial pay was 122k (or around their), and now it's 171k in less then 2 years. 40% raise in less then 2 yrs. 55% for Q400 FOs in less then 2 yrs. Westjet managed 25.5% or around there over 4 years...

Jazz alpa already came to an agreement with Jazz Management and when it was presented to AC management, they refused to rubberstamp the deal so it's currently dead in the water. Alpa did their job, it's AC that's refusing to allow any gains at Jazz, even at the current state the company is in.

I heard the Jazz/ALPA raise was around 25-30% (that Air Canada quashed) so even that won’t be enough to keep people around.

…all ALPA did is just prove they’re not worth 0.02% (let alone 2%) of your paycheck. Where was ALPA when the career contract was signed? Perhaps the Flair ALPA contract? Reality is forcing quick responses and CA’s and the whole bs that goes with negotiating over months and years is showing it’s true worth. Every non union pilot is protected by the Canada Labour Code…wage reductions, terms of work, layoffs, mergers..all for one low price….$0. Sure, Porter’s far from perfect…but, current wage issues aside…is Jazz? AC? WJ…all with union reps as well and no end to wawcon issues.

1st year Dash FO at porter is 66% more than jazz 1st year
1st year Dash CA at porter is 30% more than jazz 1st year

This is good for everyone, soon will see everyone's pay goes up!

I wonder how jazz E1 pilots feel about this? Same type rating, almost same plane but E2 1st year at porter $76,500 vs E1 1st year at jazz $39,000. That is almost double  And porter's health benefit/long and short term are way cheaper, $100 per month if I remember correctly.
