Can I Instruct Multi Without an Instructor Rating?

Good Day All,

I am a new CPL pilot with 120 multi hours. I read that with 50 multi hours and 10 on type I can teach others with a pilot license their multi rating. I understand I cannot give a recommend.

Can I rent a multi aircraft that I have 10 hours on and teach? Or do I have to be hired by a flight training outfit with the appropriate AOC? Is it worth it to just get my instructor rating? I am only looking to do this part time.

You definitely can't rent a twin and teach on it. It's also highly unlikely someone would rent you a plane to teach on. What you CAN legally do is find someone with a twin who would sell block time to the student and you provide the instruction. Make sure it's arms length. However, I'm almost certain that owners insurance wouldn't allow this.

I get that you're trying to build MPIC but TBH, I don't think you have the experience to do this. Instructing is a unique skill. Sometimes you'll come across someone with a lot of experience that can make up for their lack of teaching ability, but low time and no instructing experience? I don't think that will be of value to a student.

Why don't you just get a job where you can move on to captain in a few years?
