Re: Is it just my company?

I feel for you, although the circumstances were different, I left a company many years ago after finally having enough. I commuted for 1.5 hrs each way for 5 years after I left. The drive wasn't all that bad and I eventually found another company only 45 minutes away. Fast forward to today and I do shift rotations. Should have done that 20 years ago. Don't ever think your trapped.

I've been laid off and been there when the company shut down and always found better things, always. Big demand for experienced guys so keep your options open.

It happens everywhere unless you are willing to establish personal boundaries for how you are treated. Even in union shops there will be managers that are happy to let employees burn themselves out, work in unsafe conditions, sacrifice their personal lives if you happen to have a strong work ethic. (Nothing wrong with working hard, as long as it is for your benefit and not as a slave) The only way to deal with that is to have a polite conversation about what you think is reasonable for the amount you are paid. Often that doesn't go over well because they make a lot of money off your labour. Sometimes they think they 'own' you since they pay your wages. Your only recourse then is to become a very petty rule follower so they can't fault you for doing your job correctly but learn that the aircraft might not fly due to safety issues you have documented. Generally though things don't usually change much so just be ready to look for other jobs. You might think you are indispensable but the reality is that companies usually are eager to hire another person at an even lower wage even if quality suffers. The airline jobs are popular because there is a much stronger division between responsibilities of various employees and you can go home, refuse overtime, without feeling guilty or fearing for your job. Hope it works out, you deserve better than your whole life revolving around the needs of a company.

when I worked at aforementioned fried chicken company in the 1990's, they were always pretty good about backfilling vacation with guys from the chicken headquarters. Probably no spare manpower anywhere anymore.

Why is locking the thread requested? I think there is valid concern and I highly doubt an AME faced with those problems is making them up. It is the state of the industry. Come on!

Most likely the employer got wind of this thread, and is raising a stink about it. Locking the thread won't make it disappear, though. So, deleting the relevant posts and likely any cached search data would be needed to really scrub it from the web...

If its true that his employer is giving him trouble, or worse, over this post then its totally inline with what many, including myself, have experienced over the years with that baglicker of a company.

On the other hand, I suspect the OP is most likely millenial/genZ due to the fact they thought they could get online to blast his company and no consequences would result. He mentioned "getting on the company socials to vent" but instead chose here and that sort of logic to me indicates naivete and ignorance to the real world that mils/genZ's are full of.

No safe spaces in the real world.

Safe space. What a world we indeed live in. While I agree it’s a bit much it is kind of neat seeing management squirm a little when they need to accept that humans have certain rights in 2023.

They've always been a company who's focus/energy is to discover/hammer any whistleblowers or dissenters, instead of addressing root cause(s) for said behaviours.
They're not alone in this but they've always been known for it.

So to all the newbs who might be interested in working for Colonel Barry and his chickenshit company, this is normal procedure for them, east or west big bases.
