YYC Rentals Soar to $1800 on Average

Post by vanislepilot »

With rentals in YYC soaring up to almost 2 grand for a 1 BR, is it still an "affordable base"?

Crazy to think it is that expensive to live in YYC where in YYZ you can get a rental for a couple hundred more if not exactly the same

Does anyone think WJ will open a YQF base?

This country is messed up

One could live in YQF and drive to YYC or YEG for their assignments. You'd make a 2 hour reserve callout easily. Even easier once you can bid for long call or a block of your choice.

Buddy just had a 25% rent increase after 1 year 1600 up to 2k. Smaller than my old bachelor by 1\3. Buying a condo instead

Average 1 bedroom in Toronto is now $2,600... I'd still happily take YYC over YYZ.

Must be fun in the dead is winter during a snow storm. Pretty sure you can't say "sorry can't make it in today, it's snowing"

That’s what book offs are for.

I’ve definitely heard of people using that line. But this can be mitigated by simply knowing what the weather is going to be tomorrow or the day after.

The once or twice a year it may happen, you can use personal day/book off in advance, or get into the city prior to the storm and get a hotel or airbnb. It’s called commuting, no different than people living in Niagara trying to get to Pearson in an ice storm.

Taking the day off seems a lot better then spending 200$ a night to arrive in the city the day prior

Agreed lol. The feds even give us 5 “personal” days per year now. That should be enough to cover the winter.

5 or 10? And it doesn't have to be covered by union agreement?

No it’s 5. Also it’s federally regulated. Type up Trudeau and Personal days on Google.

Nice. So out of the 5 days, first 3 will be paid too (probably irrelevant in our case since it's monthly MMG and we're not getting paid "per day/hr")

Correct. It just has to be for one of the reason listed on the website. Such as caring for your child or taking them to a medical appointment.

And yes, you get the min daily credit. If you’re under MMG then yea I guess it’s just a day off
