Medical Delays VFR YYZ Nov 2024

Post by marthacleary63 »

Hey everyone,
Wondering if any of my hopefully fellow classmates are here and what their medical status is?
I’m having trouble getting any answers from Transport Canada and I done my medical in July.
I’ve now moved and I’m terrified I’m going to miss the certificate… :(
Is anyone else experiencing delays?

Try signing up for Transport Canada GALRO (General Aviation On-Line Services). It's a site within Transport Canada where you can see the status of your medical. You can also change your address using this site. https://tc.canada.ca/en/aviation/civil- ... e-services

I've heard that people have had a quick turnaround time when signing up for the site. It does require someone at Transport to verify your credentials, but it might be a quicker way to see the status of your medical. If it shows that it was processed and indicates "FIT," I would print it off and I imagine that it would be good enough to bring to the start of your training.

The training team in YYZ is aware of the issues with medicals being processed. Heck... I've had a medical every year for the past 20, and even though the doctor has stamped my booklet every year, GALRO shows that someone at Transport last officially looked into my file back in March 2019. Nothing during COVID, and that's for a licensed ATC and ATPL. You'll be fine.

Thank you so much for this! Unfortunately it seems a licence number is required to sign up for a new account and of course I don’t have that yet :(
Super frustrating the doctor said everything was great and it likely be 2 months turnaround, transport Canada sent me an email after I enquired with no information as to where I stand so I’m just in limbo (:

I’ve reached out to my career specialist at NAV to see if there’s anything else I can do!

I was at the YYZ school today and spoke to someone who is on the IFR basic course. If I understood him correctly, he said there's one or two people on his course who don't have medicals yet, and they've been on course for almost 6 months now. The school is well aware of the Transport Canada delays.

Good luck on the VFR course!
