Sunwest Crew Chief?
How is it that a company with a huge diverse fleet to maintain is advertising for a crew chief? I would assume that there are quite a number of qualified AME's on the floor who could move up to this position. There was in every outfit I worked at. Whats up? Not a hangar full of apprentices is there?

Re: Sunwest Crew Chief?
I really dont think that crew chiefing is considered a "moving up" action anymore.
I cant speak directly about Sunwest, but I can tell you that many experienced guys don't want the hassle/frustration of dealing with millenials/Z's?engrish speakers on top of their daily wrenching and production expectancies with limited spares and tooling..
For the difference in pay that most places offer I wouldn't even want the ACA.

Re: Sunwest Crew Chief?
Thank you for bringing up this question regarding the recent advertisement for the Crew Chief position. I appreciate your curiosity, and I'd like to provide some insights into our decision to post the position both internally and externally.
Our maintenance team has recently undergone significant changes, including promotion of apprentices to AMEs, the creation of new roles (Specific Aircraft Engineers, Inspection Lead Hands), as well as retirement. While we value the experience and qualifications of our current AME group, these internal shifts have resulted in a gap in the number of qualified individuals available for this Crew Chief position.
To address this gap comprehensively, we have chosen to open the position to both internal and external candidates. This approach allows us to consider the wealth of talent within our organization while also exploring potential external candidates who may bring unique perspectives and experiences to enhance our team. Additionally, we recognize that not all qualified internal candidates may be interested in taking on the responsibilities of the Crew Chief role, as personal preferences and career goals vary. We encourage qualified AMEs to apply and discuss their aspirations for career growth within the organization.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions.

Re: Sunwest Crew Chief?
With the new regulations coming into effect for posting wages parallel to employment “opportunities” I am curious if it applies to this god forsaken industry. Asking for a friend.
Re: Sunwest Crew Chief?
I think someone pointed out the industry is Federally regulated and not subject to these rules. Can someone confirm?
