Is it just me or does there seem to be a descent number of instructor openings this year? I have noticed several posted in various places over the past couple of months.
Just interested to know if the instructor unemployment rate is going down?

Probably not. The flight schools are at least if not out producing the amount of instructor jobs opening. LOL, Good to see though, that means those instructors managed to move up somewhere hopefully.

Maybe the reason is alot of people don't see much of a future in instructing at the moment. I think people are being smarter about their money and if they really don't see a positive future they will keep their coin in their pockets.
With all the trouble in the airline industry do you really think someone wants to lay out 40 grand for a "chance" at getting a job? Fewer students means fewer instructor jobs, which means fewer people wanting to do instructor ratings, which means less competition in the instructor field, which means more openings that go unfilled when they become available. Ask yourself now though, of those positions how many are decent type instructing jobs where you actually can make some coin and time?

I have to agree with N2. I know of a few instructors who quit to "move on" to non-aviation related "salaried" jobs.
