Convert Canadian CPL to FAA CPL
Hello, Everyone
Just had a few questions
I Just completed and got my CPL signed off in Canada and I wanted to convert my license to a Faa CPL License and move to the Us i just had a few questions regarding that
1) What is the general process and how long would it take
2) I wanted to do my instructor rating in the US after my conversion are there any flight schools that would help me do that possibaly in the west coast
3) I am a Canadian Citizen so i would i am assuming have to appl for visa not sure where to start with that. But if i wanted to do my instructor rating would i get visa based off that.
4) lastly what would be like a rough cost to do all of this.
Thank you

Re: Convert Canadian CPL to FAA CPL
Great article in Skies Magazine from a couple years ago tells you exactly everything you need. You could probably do it in a couple weeks if you have easy access to exam writing locations. Only difference now is you don’t go to a FSDO, you look up a DPE on FAA website and deal with them. They are an authorized person that can sign you off after you’ve completed the necessary items. The real delay is finding a DPE that will respond and have time in their schedule to sign you off. Excluding travel for the exams, I think it cost me about $1000 for medical, exam fees, and the DPE fee.

I would like to add that you could still get your application signed off at FSDO's.
Here is the entire procedure posted on the FAA website: https://www.faa.gov/regulations_policie ... id/1027574

Seattle FSDO would not do this, they instructed me to use a DPE. maybe the FSDO’s in other regions are still in the business of signing off, but not out west.pild04 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 16, 2023 8:26 am I would like to add that you could still get your application signed off at FSDO's.
