A330 RP
Hello all!
Any A330 RP here that can share their experience on this position in terms of QoL, especially as a new hire?
Schedules, pairings/destinations, tasks?
What is like to be augmented on this aircraft since there’s no bunk bed?
Thanks

Re: A330 RP
It’s obviously not as good as having the bunks on the Boeings, but one piece of advice…
Take an extra blanket, fold it in thirds lengthwise and lay it down the middle of the seat. It makes it that much more comfortable. I’d also suggest ear plugs as it can be a little noisier at times.
That’s it, fart away…

Re: A330 RP
Generally, as I flew the 330 and 340 years ago;
It currently flies some decent routes out of YYZ, summer Europe destinations. Lots of spring to fall crossings, lots of days away, lots of DH and lots of being tired. RPs do not have confirmed J DH yet as well, something to consider. Nice cities, but PACKED with tourists, expensive, some (LHR with literally a 90 minute ride, in a van, to a loud hotel, 60 - 90 minutes more often than not).
Tasks will be the same as any other RP. Paperwork, walk arounds where required (not normally on the WB) you will work the radios for all non ATC calls and be in the best seat to PM.
Crew rest is shit, as it is on all those abominations (767 was the same) where AC and then ACPA thought it would be a great idea to have a crew member try sleep in a seat that does not lay flat and during service surrounded by a curtain, while in uniform or at least changing out of your uniform. While the crew rest language tries its best to at least appear tough and robust on the airline, in practice we all know it's a joke.
Crew breaks are a democracy however so everyone gets a vote. Problem is, the vote of the RP is weighted last. My experience is that the two better slots will be gone, and you will be stuck with the first break - always during first service.
Hopefully some currently serving AC RPs will chime in for you with some more details but those are the broad strokes. My advice, if you still can, try get on the 777 or 787.. better deal in many regards.

Assuming you are on flat pay, you will also have the pleasure of hanging your head in the customs line knowing that you are one of the lowest paid wb pilots in the world!

Re: A330 RP
Yes, true.
Precisely what the overwhelming majority of Air Canada pilots wanted, and on a regular basis.
Democracy sucks for me sometimes. I don’t get it, but I’ve had to eat it.
Hoping this time will be fully different!
Re: A330 RP
Yeah that’s what I would prefer but it doesn’t seems like there’s gonna have any spots available at my base. That’s why I was testing the A330 water but not having a bunk bed can be a major downside.Army of one wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 7:02 am My advice, if you still can, try get on the 777 or 787.. better deal in many regards.

Recent ex 330 RP. I loved it. Crews were great, layovers are all great. Just try and avoid the Bogota for the lousy credit.
