long wait for ADB

Post by JohnPork »

Hello, has anyone else had the same issue with waiting for their ADB to come in the mail? I've been waiting since early august 2023 and still haven't received anything. I've sent a few emails but never got a response. the fee was paid and all proper paperwork was sent in.

thanks:)

Have a look at this topic: http://www.avcanada.ca/forums2/viewtopic.php?t=161042
"Presently, due to unforeseen problems with the printing press in Ottawa – there is a delay expected before Aviation Document Booklet’s can be printed and issued.
We anticipate the above listed issue to resolve Mid January 2024"

I tried to find up an email from TC regarding a follow up on my renewal.

It basically outlined that regardless of how much in advanced you submit, they will not even begin to process your renewal until 90 days prior to expiration. My company informed me a while back that they were something in the tune of 9 months behind. Unless you’re applying for an initial…than welcome to the wonderful world of Transport Canada.

On the bright side, I received an invoice for the first time in roughly 15 years for processing my medical. It’s a step in the right direction!

Even when they print the books, the psac/cups of whatever union has job action going. Told their quota is about 5 per day. Need to do a thorough check on all documents before they do anything. Info from a tc guy

Transport has issued an extension (NCR-023-2023) found at https://tc.canada.ca/en/aviation/refere ... tions-cars.

For those who don't want to download the document, here is the relevant portion of the text:

"The purpose of this exemption is to adopt temporary measures in the public interest to enable all holders of valid Canadian Aviation Document Booklets to continue operations following supply chain issues that have not been resolved since the end of the COVID pandemic.

More specifically, this exemption allows all holders of Canadian Aviation Document Booklets that were still valid on April 1, 2023 to continue exercising the privileges stated in their booklet until August 31, 2024; or beyond if the expiry date affixed in the booklet is later.

This exemption only extends the validity date of the ADB and consequently any Licence or Permit. Only the validity date of the ADB shall be extended and shall not change the validity of any Rating with a validity date listed on the Permit or Licence."

TL;DR: As long as you had a valid booklet as of last April, you can use it up until August 31st of this year even if the booklet has expired, but your date-based license, ratings, etc still have to be respected.

So I am not the only one. They must need the money to fix the printing press… :D

No way, you too? Did you happen to do your renewal via telemedicine? Because that's the only change for me and I never got charged before either.

I did not receive any invoice for my 2 telemedicine renewals. My last was in person. Thankfully it was a bill for one medical

Ok, I thought it might've been due to doing telemedicine since that's the only thing I did differently and I woke up just today with a bill in the mail, something I've never received for the past renewals, spanning a decade and a half.

Hurts the wallet reaching $300 yearly now.

If only the liberal government could pump out license books as fast as they put tampons in men’s washrooms.

Someone in my company said they applied 6 months in advance for the booklet, but that TC is so far behind that your application is classified based on your date that your current ADB expires, and they don't start the processing until 90 days prior. Info that he got from TC and shared with us.

I was told by a few people not to try before the new year to I sent renewal application yesterday & it arrived in Surrey today.
My book expires April 1st so I shall see how long it takes.
I do have a copy of the expiry extension, but was told by a local examiner that the extension is only good if the renewal has been applied for before expiry.

Submitted for renewal September 2023
Expiration date May 2024
Recieved February 2024.

They certainly have made them on the cheap for this round of prints.

The new ones are terrible. They look like a cheap forgery of the old ones. Paper cover, stapled instead of stitched, poor printing. Embarrassing that this is what they're sending out.

They don't look like passports anymore?

They do. The blue is actually darker than the older booklets, it's a closer shade to the Canadian passport colour. They are just very very cheaply made.

Is it really that hard to provide a plastic card like the Americans (or even AMEs)?

There is nothing in NCR-023-2023 that specifies the renewal must be applied for before expiry. It only states:

'Persons making use of this exemption shall endeavor to renew their ADB as soon as practicable.'

Sounds like another examiner trying to make their own interpretations sound like actual rules.

I apologize for quoting a post from months ago lol.

Apparently we need a passport type document to show :
1) my face
2) my name
3) any type ratings we own.
4) and that I can probably survive another year.

The printing fees of this massive booklet are directly covered by your gracious donations to the government.
