Hello All,

I'm hoping someone out there can help me. I recently got let go from the IFR ATC programme (after 1 year) and am now looking to use the knowledge I acquired in a related, but different, field. As such I researched Flight Dispatch and found it appealing.

What I haven't been able to find is any training on the west coast. I'm in Vancouver and so far I've only been able to find training in Ontario.

Does anyone know of courses offered in Western Canada? Or maybe some self study material available out there?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Whitt, how much did Nav Canada charge you before they told you they were not going to employ you?

Hey Whitt, Brand new at this Forum thing, so go easy. I just wrote my exams and did the course through York University here in TO, I know that doesn't help you in Vancouver, but my instructor Dario does offer courses in YYC (little closer) So I suggest calling York University and finding out when the courses are offered in Calgary, best I can do man, still looking for a job myself, but they are out there....Best of luck

Ahramin, I paid $3,500 for the 6+ months in Cornwall. But that included 2 round trip flights (one for the Xmas break) as well as the food and lodging. Now, although I would rather have been paid like it was done in the past, overall, $3,500 for a course of that length plus boarding is a good deal. Computer networking will cost $15 G's for 6 months and you still have to pay your living expenses.

But I did wind up on the payroll for about 4 months before I was let go. I plan on trying again. And the good thing will be that IFR is now locally trained so I'd stay in Vancouver.

You could have stayed in western canada. SAIT in yyc offers the flight dispatcher course a coupel of times a year. So does BDA.
