FAA Instrument Renewal in Canada?

Hello,

I'm curious if an FAA IFR can be renewed in Canada at all. My colleague is looking to convert his FAA ATP to a TC ATPL but it's my understanding that he needs to renew his US IFR cert before he can do that.

Unfortunately his US Visa request was denied so he cannot do it in the US.

I'd appreciate any help.

Cheers,
Chax

I know that a FAA IPC can be attained with FAA instructors on a foreign registered aircraft. That test would automatically provide instrument currency on the TC side.

There are a few FAA instructors here in Canada who could be of help. I have seen a couple of ads on here.

I'm an FAA CFI Instrument Instructor and Multi-engine instructor
based in CYWG.
Typically many foreign pilots have FAA instrument ratings
and need a recent FAA Instrument Proficiency Check
in order to convert an FAA IR to a TC Instrument Rating.

Canada does not allow the conducting of FAA checkrides (including IPCs — Instrument Proficiency Checks) unless done by an FAA-authorized individual operating under an FAA-regulated 141/61 school, DPE, or CFII, which are virtually nonexistent in Canada.
