uAvionx AV30 & TailbeaconX Biannual Recert

Post by Popmec »

Does anyone here have experience with recertifying the UAvionix AV30 and the tailBeaconX? Cost and labour about the same as a traditional transponder? I am considering installing one so I would like to be aware of the implications to this requirement. Thanks for any insights you can share.

Without being very familiar with the TailbeaconX and having been provided a copy of uAvionics software to place the transponder in a ground test mode, many of the tests required by Car 571 Appendix B cannot be performed. As for the ADS-B, there is no requirements for testing in either the uAvionics documentation or CAR 625. It's a strange situation where the regulator has basically said that NavCanada is in charge, but NavCanada has no business regulating aircraft maintenance requirements so they have no interest or mechanism to do so. Basically take it to any shop, they'll test what they can and sign it out. I would check with the shop first to make sure they are ok with this.

Interesting. I wonder if it's similar when trying to accomplish Appendix F, ATC Transponder Performance Tests.

Sorry, I meant F. Appendix B is fine except that uAvionix will not publish any continuing airworthiness guidance for skipping friction, hysteresis, or scale error so you're wasting time doing tests that should not be required.
