Now is NOT the time for selfies or other "Look at me" Posts
To all you social media crack junkies that need to post a selfie to get a hit of endorphins...
Now is not the time
I know some of us can't help ourselves with a photo in front of a Dreamliner and how "we made it"...unless that photo has a big red ass lanyard around your neck...don't post
Soon we will be telling our loved ones why we need to Strike while some us are being "I feel so lucky to be a NHL pilot" hinting at "my life is so great" - while being the lowest paid pilots in the industry
Just save your self gratification posts till after we got a proper contract
This isnt about YOU. This is about ALL OF US and the collective.
We don't need mixed messaging from PilotSteve or PilotCindy or PilotNoOneGivesaFuck on how great your life is. Let's be stoic and be pissed. We deserve more and for @#$! sakes, wear your UNION LANYARD
Support your union. Not your Instagram Likes

Hear! Hear!
Seeing boot licking pilots in Air Canada social media this week kissing corporate ass as our negotiating team works against the same corporation who thinks we deserve less than industry standard is revolting

My favorite is seeing former ACPA Reps on Company social media
They did such a good job fighting for the members the company puts them on their social media
Of course no union lanyard to be seen...

I was at the YVR airport around midnight a few weeks ago. A camera crew was following around the four pilots of the first Singapore flight. Guess they were making a video or something.
Not one red lanyard on any of them. Pretty sickening. Bootlickers all.
Makes me wonder if one of them showed up for the pairing with a red lanyard on, were they asked to take it off???
Completely pathetic showing either way.

I've seen that video. One pilot is seen wearing the blue ALPA lanyard, one clip on, and the other two have a company lanyard including the captain. All RAICs tucked in except the clip on and all four pilots are also wearing a rondelle pin in the same spot. I'd certainly imagine they received direction on all of this by the camera crew or someone else before filming.RippleRock wrote: ↑Sun May 05, 2024 10:55 am I was at the YVR airport around midnight a few weeks ago. Isn’t this everyone’s primary motivation though to fly for Big Red?ameliapilote wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 9:27 pm

And doesn’t the company well know it, too.
Re: Now is NOT the time for selfies or other "Look at me" Posts
The whole social media thing is totally mind boggling to me. Even coming from a generation that pretty much grew up with it. I've never used it and don't understand it.
I also have never understood how executives of salaries get bonuses when the company loses money. AC execs get 50% higher bonus in 2023 vs 2022. Except in 2022 they didn't make any money.
Salary if a company loses money, fine. Big salary... I dont get, but ok. But a BONUS?? When they lose money?!
That's Cronie Capitalism.

jesus guys, you can post something and be proud of yourself for your accomplishments. It aint gonna change the negots.
Re: Now is NOT the time for selfies or other "Look at me" Posts
But it will be something to project upon. “We got a shitty ALPA contract just like everyone else because nobody wore a LANYARD!!”
Seriously outside of your little reality distortion field nobody gives a @#$!. Support will be in votes and based on (realistic) negotiations.
It takes a special kind of logic to see applicants in the hundreds or even thousands a month willing to work for peanuts but then somehow be fooled when they go dark on SM and all wear a lanyard.
NHL? Ha! Getting a job at Tim Hortons without speaking Punjabi is harder than getting a job at Air Canada.
Those of us who actually don’t like the pay aren’t working there!

Wearing a red lanyard means you are willing to go to the wall for a WC contract. It tells everyone that you are willing to go to that wall for as long as necessary. It tells me (a widebody Skip who has less to gain than most) without a doubt that they aren't going "above and beyond" to assist a Corp that treats us with distain and looks at us as a direct "cost" to be manipulated, not an asset. It tells me that you DO NOT agree that we are not worth a respectable wage, nor agree with the Company "foot dragging" on getting things settled.‘Bob’ wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2024 7:45 pm But it will be something to project upon. “We got a shitty ALPA contract just like everyone else because nobody wore a LANYARD!!”

It tells me that they have my back. The message that that "silly red lanyard" sends between pilots is very, very powerful.
When standing in a group of pilots, each wearing a red lanyard, I don't question anyone's motives, I don't question unity. It's empowering to see them walk by sporting them. It's a confidence builder. This is not so much about sending a message to the Company, it's far more important in letting other pilots know that you won't let them down when push comes to shove, and you are doing everthing you can to promote a fair and reasonable contract that is LONG overdue.
FWIW, At this point every single pilot knows that if they aren't wearing a red lanyard, or at least sporting one on their baggage, they are not a "team player". Is that the message we want to send? Seriously. If a WCC isn't your goal, what is??????
Why they aren't interested in serious contract and wage improvements baffles me completely. Contract good enough? It's pathetic by every metric.

Whenever I see a AC pilot who isn't wearing a red lanyard, I just assume they're a manager.
Re: Now is NOT the time for selfies or other "Look at me" Posts
Who the eff are you to dictate what someone can post on their social media? As someone mentioned, you can BOTH fight for a world class contract AND post about an achievement you're proud of. Are you that thick to believe that posting such achievements will be detrimental to achieving a WCC? You really think that one can't support their union and their instagram? The point is the mixed messages. "I'm proud to be the lowest paid 787 pilot in the industry who might be going on strike soon"? Seems a bit odd.
If the red lanyard is present in the selfies, it acknowledges the labour issues surrounding their training achievement.

Exactly...
This is about unity not about selfies
It literally is in the word SELF - ie
Unless you're wearing that lanyard in a photo, it's clear you don't get it and Air Canada pilots will continue to be the Frostback Global Airline Pilots of the North

It's amazing to me that some pilots trivialize the lanyards
There is NOTHING more important than unity
Voting is anonymous and private
Wearing a bright ass lanyard makes it very clear optically you support your union and each other.
It is pretty clear to read some comments on who still doesn't get it and are from the old way of doing things which was a total fail
How is it even possible that AC pilots make less than an Ultra Low Cost Carrier?

Remember...the MEC is only going to push as far as they think they can with the pilot group they have
If you can't wear a lanyard for them, you think they are going to be comfortable pushing the absolute limits?
"Please sacrifice all your time and take personal risks on my behalf but I'm too scared/nervous & too much of a boot licker to wear a lanyard"

Classy!

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

While I'm certainly NOT defending the pay at AC (nothing to defend anyways), does it really need to be explained to you why Flair, or for that matter everyone else pays more right now?

What a ridiculous / childish string. Someone posting a picture of themselves with a nice cool Jet, is not going to have an impact on collective bargaining.
Seeing Management Pilots doing the first Singapore Flight, without lanyards and heads are exploding.
Stand behind and support the MEC - pretty simple.

I see what you're saying but it's the same line of thinking that made accountants work for min wage since they have the "pride" of seeing Deloite or KPMG on their resume...flying4dollars wrote: ↑Wed May 08, 2024 11:15 amWhile I'm certainly NOT defending the pay at AC (nothing to defend anyways), does it really need to be explained to you why Flair, or for that matter everyone else pays more right now?
