Instructor rating so you can build time.
Or, get a ramp job and use the money towards rent and when you're about to go online, go and get your MIFR.

Use the MIFR towards the two hundred that is required for the commercial license. Then get your instructor rating to build time and not to mention build your smarts aboot the airplanes

3 hours for 172 or 1 hour on a multi??? That's some really poor decision making skills( i mean it in a nice way, why buy the cow when you can get the milk)...
Get your instructor rating, bilk those students... and then rent the school multi at the "instructor discount"(employee rate)...

But if you need to build time for the CPL anyway, why not do it while working towards MIFR?

I've just finished my MIFR a few months ago, so that makes the decision pretty easy for me. I don't have any plans to get my instructor rating. I'll move up north and find a job flying floats instead.

I say get both and you might get to teach on a schools multi as well and get the MPIC time which is probably useful.
