Pilot work permit sponsorship

Post by CYTZ_Tim »

Just out of curiosity has Porter ever sponsored or helped pilots to extend their work permit? Work permit extension needs a LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment), any know if they have done this for any pilots?

Porter is one of the few 705s hiring pilots with work permits so I am wondering if they will help extend an expiring work permit due to current immigration restrictions (permanent residency being hard to get), I know Flair airlines has approved 20 LMiAs back in 2020 and on under transport category air pilot and instructor is still an in demand occupation in Canada.

If anyone knows any information could you please kindly share,

Thanks

I highly doubt they are sponsoring any of new hirings. Especially LMIA.
With the trend LMIA getting stricter to get one and Porter having a pile of applications, it's just not viable to expect one from Porter.
All of non-Canadian pilots working at Porter that I know of have at least PR FYI.

Sorry for buzz kill

There is no foreign pilot sponsorship at Porter, it’s simply not needed. Now are there pilots on work permits at Porter? Yes but they’ve all obtained them on their own.

If you can get your FV license and are legally entitled to work in Canada I don’t think it’ll be a problem. I don’t think porter will necessarily help you obtain that foreign validation, but as mentioned above, If you have one, sure….why not
