Tricycle Otter

Post by C-FDPB »

This is probably a long shot but maybe someone here remembers. Back in around 2002 Viking had advertised on their website a possible new version of the otter that had tricycle gear and a tail much like a twin otter. Basically looked like if dehavilland built a caravan or kodiak. Havent been able to find the photos since. Around this time they were advertising putting the Turbo beaver back in production and doing a run of radial beavers. Does anyone else remember this??

Was it an April Fools joke. Viking has made very little investment in the bush plane lineup with the exception of the -400 variant of the twin otter which was short lived, I believe sales dried up. The next project is a very small production of the CL-415 and next generation CL-515 which will be built in Calgary. First customers I believe are in Europe with approximately 12 units.

No new 415’s to my knowledge. They will be 515’s which will basically be the same as the current 415 but with AUP (basically an upgraded avionics suite)

I am not holding my breath as far as the delivery time line as they are really far behind on the mock up.

And yet they're planning on building an entire airport to support this enterprise? A fool and his money...

A bit off topic from the original post but regarding the 215's they had 12 or 13 215's in Calgary a few years back doing conversions to turbine. Any idea as to the success of this. I would thing building scoopers from scratch would be a good idea going forward with the world on fire.

Conversions are still being done but most series 2 CL-215’s have already been converted. Unfortunately the first big batch (series 1) of CL-215’s are not eligible for the conversion. I am surprised that nobody has done the paperwork for it thus far!
