World Worst Reserve Rules
I've been doing reserve as a junior guy and have to ask...does Air Canada have the worst reserve rules in the world?
No long call but we have "Best Fit".
Big quality of life improvements was "better release language"...only problem with that is...you need a pairing or you just sit on short call reserve
There are no limits to how many people they can assign to reserve, you can't bid RAPs and they can put them anywhere.
Basically...this has to be the worst the reserve system in the world

I seem to recall hearing there will be three RAPs, very similar if not exactly like Jazz reserve!FNGYYZ wrote: ↑Tue Oct 15, 2024 8:47 am I've been doing reserve as a junior guy and have to ask...does Air Canada have the worst reserve rules in the world?

RAP-A B, C, A, a reserve period has a beginning and end, they are 14 hours and rules regarding when you can be called and the latest they can call, it really requires a flow chart initially to make sure they are following it correctly.
The best fit part is the worst part of it because in some scenarios you lose seniority, example, if there are 2 pilots on the same RAP and 1 has three days of reserve and the other has 4 days, if a 4 day pairing comes up it goes to the “best fit” regardless of seniority, the pilot with 4 days. Now if both pilots have 4 days of reserve and a 1,2,3,4 day pairing comes up, the senior pilot can pass it down, of course there are many scenarios but that is it in a nutshell.
Bottom line, this will prevent the company from creating unlimited reserve periods starting minutes apart, always having someone that is best fit, all pilots on reserve A have the same start and end time, so huge improvement from your previous rules!

Re: World Worst Reserve Rules
To an extent Best Fit sucks but it did come with a significant pay increase. Before you could be missing out on 10-15 hours of pay every month, where DBM are set to 85 hours for block holders and reserve is guaranteed to 68 hours only. With Best Fit it’s DBM minus 2 for reserve as guaranteed. Even if you fly 40 hours your pay is guaranteed to DBM - 2.

I must of read it wrong then, I saw 75 MMG of block holder DBM whichever is higher30westpirate wrote: ↑Tue Oct 15, 2024 12:13 pm To an extent Best Fit sucks but it did come with a significant pay increase. Edit, the above is the flat pay provision, I found a reference about LOU 85 flex dbm 88, now reserve dbm -2.
I also found that if the block dbm is 78, the reserve days off are increased to 13(30 day month) or 14(31 day month)

Re: World Worst Reserve Rules
DBM is 70 for many fleets this month
A whopping 68 hrs of pay for reserve
Most airlines have mins of 75 / 77.5
AC is a 900 hrs guarantee for the YEAR
