Flair Interview Process
Hello
I am preparing in advance for such interview
Can someone shed light on the process in a bit more detail.
I know there will be group exercise, and Advanced compass. How is the scenario for the group exercise, how many questions were there, how long do we have to go through them, anything you remember would help greatly
I know been asked before, I looked but most just say its easy, don't worry and good luck, thank you but can I know more

Re: Flair Interview Process
I did the in person interview and testing for Flair back in November. I ended up getting PFO'd but never really set myself up for success. They only had 2 dates available for the assessments, and I was flying on the first day so took the red eye to YYZ from YYC after a duty day (Flair provided the flights to/from my location and will do so for whatever airport is closest to you that they fly out of), had enough time to grab food a shower and an hour nap then head to their office - it's about a 5-6 hour process from start to finish, back to the hotel to change then red eye back home. That being said, my mental math isn't the best even on a well rested day. In the end they never provided any feedback as to what my score was or where there may have been some areas of improvement so I have no way of telling if it was from the Compass Test, the Interview or just a lack of 705 time compared to other candidates. In the in end it was a unique experience and I was happy for the opportunity to be involved. The entire process unfolded like this:
Group Project/Task
They broke us off into different groups of 3 for the group task, I won't divulge the specific task we had for privacy reasons, i'm sure the change the scenarios after a period of time but the content itself is irrelevant - the purpose of the exercise is to see how well you interact with others in a group dynamic with people you just met. The instructions for the task are provided in advance and are clear and concise. The take aways from the group activity are:
- Pay attention to the instructions
- Work together as a team
- Be mindful of the time remaining (it is timed for ~20 minutes to deliberate, 5 minutes to "present" and the staff do you give you interval warnings
- Be mindful of the initial parameters and check in to see you are still on track with meeting those requirements
- Participate! Provide insight, acknowledge others opinions - it's essentially CRM in an office setting.
Interview
The interview portion takes roughly 45mins-1 hour, it is done 1 on 2 with the candidate and 2 Flight Ops members on the hiring committee, they will both be experienced Pilots with the company. It's a mix of personal and technical questions, who are you, what's your background, why Flair and a healthy does of IFR/ATPL questions. They will cater the level of technical questions based on your career experience (i.e if you don't have a Jet type rating, they'll stick to more turbo-prop type questions. IFR is IFR and they could ask anything. Takeaways from the Interview are:
- Be yourself
- Dress professionally
- Small refresher on general topics
- Research the company you are applying for
Advance Compass Test (2.0 hr limit) takes in avg 1.5 hrs, some timed sections
The compass test was the lengthiest portion of the experience, they split everyone up in the morning so it's random draw as to which portion you will actually do first (interview, group activity or COMPASS) but at any point, concurrent activity is always happening. The COMPASS Test is computer based and comprised of the following sections - if your search online you can find some companies that offer practice tests. The initial briefing they give you is very straightforward and each individual test has it's own clear and concise directions which set you up for success:
- Math (pen paper only): Brush up on your mental math, you do get a pen/paper to work from but it's not multiple choice and they do require a specific answer. It is a timed test so do your best to power through it because there are a few performance questions at the end where you need to use the performance charts provided.
- Spatial orientation (RBI, AI, Compass): basically similar to ADF type questions, will give you 3 parameters per question and ask position of aircraft relative to station.
- Hand Eye Coordination (Stick/Rudder/Speedtape): basically just following a flight director on the screen and keeping the cross hairs centred on the FD as it moves axis.
- Memorization (alt, hdg, spd, freq): Will display the data for a few seconds then disappear, you need to re-input the data usung the correct numbers and order it was displayed.
- Data Update (alt, hdg, spd arrows, prioritize alert cancel w/i 3 seconds for highest scoring): It gives you a set of data, then the screen will change and with it, some of the data has been changed. You need to toggle what was previously entered using arrows to change the value to the new data displayed. Simultaneously a red square will occasionally appear in one of the many black boxes that are also on the screen. You need to "cancel" the alert whilst changing the other data.
- 30 Questions general aviation/atpl type questions: Standard multiple choice knowledge questions.
Instructions are very clear, practice rounds plenty of time.
Hope this helps anyone who intends to apply in the future.

How long of a heads-up did you get between the first email inviting you to the selection process and the interview date?
Just wondering how fast things might happen in case one is travelling for example and if there might be some flexibility with interview dates.

Re: Flair Interview Process
The invite for the interview/selection came with a link to view available interview dates - I only had 2 dates available of which only one I could actually make work and it was less than a week away. May have been different for others.
