EVAS Air
Kind of a weird question, but I've seen EVAS Air in YYT a few times, and I'm just curious where the name comes from? Is it an acronym, or a name borrowed from somewhere else?

EVAS
Like posted earlier, EVAS is Exploits Valley Air Services. It is a part of Gander Flight Training, they operate a Beech 1900 as a operator for Air Canada Jazz. They've been around since the early 1990's but are now starting to get really big. I remember the good old days, when it was only 2 full time students and 2 airplanes, easy to schedule lessons then!

I wasn't being specific on the airline getting bigger. The company as a whole is getting larger. It went from one little room in Gerry's hangar with one instructor, one airplane and 2 students to what it is now. Just glad to see that someone in NFLD is making a go of it. I don't think that losing a contract like that would greatly affect the bottom line since they seem to be busy with the training side of things.

Actually EVAS started with one airplane (GXO) and a small 14 foot (or so) travel trailer, graduating shortly thereafter to a second airplane (NNX) and an ATCO type trailer, all out of the Exploits Valley Regional Airstrip.
It wasn't until late in the second year of operation that GFT started up, out of Gerry's hangar, as you mentioned Techopsgirl...and you're right, it is good to see a NF success story continue to grow and prosper. Wouldn't surprise me to see PJW graduate to the jets some day...

Shes a pretty reliable 1900 I'll give her that, but the biggest reason is their pilots. They give it their all to make sure everything runs smooth and on time. Couldn't ask for a better group of guys to work with.... I think this rumour has gone as far as it can really go....
Hey listen, we have delays just like everyone else, but we make the time up...we want to make the time up...That airplane is reliable because of our preventative maintenance...that airplane is looked over every night. Couldnt ask for better engineers. That OTP was passed along fron an AC manager in person. Envy can drive a man to his limit you know! All of the flight school airplanes are running on Avgas actually if you want to know. My bit!

Of course their OTP would have to be good. Pat standing at the door kicking the guys in the ass telling them the weather is good enough, go flying! I still remember the old plane that I would fly all the time (KNW) had no heat, when it snowed outside, it snowed inside. Didn't have the key start, just the handle you had to pull on, almost cut your hand if you didn't have a glove on! Only caught in on fire once. Oh the good old days...
From the local news:
There's been no Air Canada flights between St. John's and Gander since Saturday because of engine problems with the plane, the Gander based provider with the Air Canada contract, uses for the service. Air Canada's Isabelle Arthur is hoping the service will be back to normal by tomorrow. Arthur says they've been doing everything they can. She says the company is apologizing to customers. The company is using a bus service to get people to and from Gander.

Thanks for the update Carl...I found that rumour funny too...but I am wondering what affect on your schedule that the Jazz YQX to YHZ will have on you...
Now the rumour Im looking forward to is Home Depot! Yeah baby bring on the power tools!
