I’m an AME with a few M2 type ratings, and I’m exploring the idea of doing some contractual work during my free time. I’m reaching out to learn more about how to get started in this area.

What are the key steps to begin contracting?

Sent your stuff in to one of the contract agencies, they're always looking for people, If you've been in the biz for a while you should have hear about these companies. They were looking for people for PQ recently.

Reach out to CAS Aerospace, Elite Aerospace, or Avicrew Management. I've worked for all three in Quebec, and they all pay their invoices in full, and (usually) on time. They all have their ups and downs, but one of the big perks of contracting is the flexibility.

If you don't have one yet, get your accountant to set up business tax accounts for you.

The rest is mostly experience. Be professional. Show up ready to work like you're on probation and want to keep the job.
