YUL Base on E2 for DEC

Hello everyone,

I am considering the DEC E2 position. The posting is only for YYZ, but how long does it take before one gets YUL base?
Also, is it possible to start commuting day1 after release? Or is there a reserve period during which i will be forced to be in YYZ?

You will 100% be YYZ based but for how long is the question. Flying in YUL is tough to gauge, so I think it will be abit before a transfer especially since others want the position as well.

You will have access to our RJP/Commuting program on day 1 of employment as well. Just have to write into the management group and they will give access to it.

I don’t work for Porter so I don’t have first hand on how many pilots sit on reserve, however you should prepare yourself for a long time at the bottom of the seniority list. If you are going in as DEC, you are late to the party, there are many Porter pilots that will upgrade and or transfer in from the Q that will be above you.

YUL is a desirable base, current bottom of the list is slightly 2 years, which is also not far off of the length of time that Porter has had jets.

YYZ Reserve best I can tell is slightly under a year.

You can find news articles on Porters' fleet numbers. They continue to show intent to expand the fleet dramatically. How that pans out could swing times in either direction. The other factor that I could speculate affects base transfer or reserve time in the future is current pilots transferring from the dash to the E2, and E2 pilots that upgrade.

Hard to say, could be a few months or more. As of now, ground schools every month, which does include internal transfers.

I'm not sure if it's the case for DECs, but I was training a new FO a few months back. He was hired for YYZ but was awarded YUL literally on his first day of line training. So take that for what it's worth.
