Hi,
It's been a long time since I have made a post on this website. However I'm back only to get some advice from you all out there. As of two years ago, I decided to get a degree for myself + do a flight training combined. There is an institution that offers this both under one name, and it's quite reputable in the maritimes. They pretty much have things set up in a way that your degree courses are done normally in first year, after that from 2nd year onwards they lower your degree course load to accommodate flight training, however they offered me an option to do the flight training in 4th year from 0 to IATPL and insisted I complete all degree courses over the next 3 years. I went for this option and it kind of worked a little bit in my favour as I don't have to spend an overwhelming amount of money travelling back and forth to the flight school, while also paying the flight school a seperate fee for training.
To get straight to point, as of right now I'm still in doubt if I should continue with this path right now, because if I want to keep going under this degree name then I would have to spend over a $100k in my last year to Mfc alone for the flight training part and I still have around another $25k left to pay for my 3rd year courses. The other thing that I was thinking of in order to avoid spending this much money was to simply switch my degree into something other than aviation and complete my 3rd and 4th year with seperate courses, after that I'll apply to a flight school that is less expensive which can give all that I would need in order to step into the aviation world. Considering that I need my degree plus want to get my flight training done in a less costly way. What would be your advice on this? And list your recommendations for a cheaper flight school.

Re: Advice on flight training
When I started my flight training I was originally going to do a similar program from a school out west. After talking to a few key people from the HR department of a couple of possible future employers I decided to just do my training at an FTU and work 1 on 1 with an instructor. I got all my ratings done in 1.5 years and spent significantly less than had I done the 3-4 yr aviation diploma course. They also told me when I asked that the aviation diploma isn't worth the paper it's printed on. Just my .02

I would only apply to a recognized Aviation College program where the flying portion is subsidized by the government. It's not only way cheaper but the diploma you receive is recognized by Air Canada and gets you extra point on your application because the quality of training is standardized.

Switch degrees, finish school, then do flight training at a cheaper school. Look into Harv’s Air, Canadian Flyers, Brampton, or Coastal Pacific.
