Last Sunwing flights

Post by Nauclerus »

From the Sunwing MEC, May 28th 2025 ...
Last Sunwing Flight

Today marks the sad day of Sunwing Airline’s last commercial flight. After that, the call sign will be used one last time on a lease return flight to Europe. It’s an inglorious end to a glorious airline. It certainly is the end of a great run. Sunwing Airlines will be sorely missed.

For us now, the next step is Team Teal. It won’t offer the lifestyle that Sunwing did, but there are benefits and we can hope that with CA3, working conditions will improve. The Sunwing days are over and it’s time to focus on building the road ahead.

Reduction Bid Without Layoffs

Lastly, the Reduction Bid Without Layoffs will be happening soon; likely the first week of June or shortly thereafter. The bid is anticipated to affect Toronto fairly significantly and in general, jobs will be moved to the west. Exact numbers are still not yet available. Sadly, we know that this will be a difficult time for everyone.

It's disappointing when good things come to an end. I'm looking forward to flying with a number of old friends that are now joining the Teal Team and am optimistic for the future with the combined airline.

In the context of Canadian charter airlines, only Air Transat has lasted longer than Sunwing did. Skyservice, Royal, Canada 3000, Jetlines, Air Club International, Harmony, Holidair, Odyssey Air/Nationair, Points of Call, Vacationair, Worldways Canada and Zoom all didn't last as long as Sunwing and, for the most part, their pilots didn't get merged into another airline.

Best of luck to everyone and I look forward with flying with those that decide to stay on with WestJet.
