Is there any reason why there’s not a standard hiring process among airlines? I’ve read on this forum some have sim evals, some have multiple interviews, some have cognitive testing, some in person interviews, some virtual etc.
Are there any statistics to show doing or not doing any of these results in safer or unsafe operations?

Re: Hiring Processes
This probably has something to do with costs. Lower time experienced people might be more of a gamble to hire for an airline so extra measures are put in place to find the appropriate candidate. Also, the flying is different at some operators compared to others. So yes, in my opinion, they are warranted to make you do a sim eval, or a psych test, or get a “thorough” medical, in order to find the correct candidate even though it might cost them a little extra at the very front of the hiring process.dustyroads wrote: ↑Fri Jul 11, 2025 12:15 pm Is there any reason why there’s not a standard hiring process among airlines? Re: Hiring Processes
I think it depends on the experience of flight ops personal. Flair does cognitive test because they all came back from the sandbox or Asia. So they think it's appropriate.

Re: Hiring Processes
Most large Airlines have a similar process.dustyroads wrote: ↑Fri Jul 11, 2025 12:15 pm Is there any reason why there’s not a standard hiring process among airlines? Smaller airlines may look at things differently.
My best interview was a 20 minute informal chat after which they said " You are welcome".
Next best was an informal chat followed by a visual circuit in a Simulator. That's my current employer of 12+ years.
Some companies want to see if you will fit in, come across as a normal person and can fly the airplane.
Always fly a stable approach - it's the only stability you'll find in this business
