Cessna 180 on floats

Post by tazin river »

Good day folks

Wondering what are the alternatives for floats for a Cessna 180? Currently using edos 2870. Nothing wrong with mines but perhaps there are other options? Like something with compartments and a flat top to hold all on….

I’ve flown the 2960s which didn’t have hatches or a flat top, probably basically the same as yours. I know the wip 3000s have hatches and a flat top but never flown them. I’d be willing to bet they handle bigger water better though

Owned a 57’ 180A operated on 2870’s for over a decade.

Helped give a buddy of mine his float rating on his 180 which was kitted out on almost brand new PK 3000’s last summer.

I was immediately sold. Flat tops, big hatches and very very forgiving…. but yikes! They are expensive.

All the best,

TPC

You could try Wipline or Aerocet floats—they offer flat tops and storage compartments.

Although not on a 180 but on my C185, I have flown several manufacturers of floats and I was blown away with the PK3500s. They are a little slower in the air but handle bigger water better than the rest, stronger than Whips but offer same flat top and big hatches and generally the most affordable.
I don't understand why they weren't were popular on commercial machines. Maybe slower and a bit heavier?
