I see they posted an ad looking for cpt's and f/o's for just about their whole fleet, anyone know why? Have a bunch left for greener pastures, or are they gearing up for a busy summer?? :?:

So Skyward has their line in the water and are trolling for free PPC's....hmmm, kinda makes me wonder why, a person with a current PPC on a 1900 or 100 or 441, would want to move to Thompson, when they could probably get a better job in AB or ON or BC... :?

makes me wonder why all those rampies.. or others would wanna work at a place that would screw em over in preference of PPC'd pilots.. cheap way out for the company I suppose... hmm makes ya wonder what other things these compaies try to cheaping things.. (ie-wages.. maintaince.. etc etc)

Ya I would imagine that many of those working the ramp would be a fair bit pissed off. I'd be packing up the car and heading out.

Lots of qualified rampies/wannabe-pilots.

Lots of qualified F/Os, ready for upgrade.

They knew that the mass "Skyward-Exodus" was bound to happen sometime, yet they chose to do nothing until it was too late.

I can't imagine too many mentally stable people with serious qualifications wanting to move here.

I have around 300 hours..... and a stacked resume (i know only flight time counts, phds dont!). I am thinking of going to YTH, meeting Greg and giving him a CV or 2 or 12, incase he throws the first 12 away!!!

I am planning to tell him I will definalty work the ramp, as I believe in paying your dues, if it pays off. I would like to be putting more ink in the log book by mid / early summer if possible

But should I bother, what type of company is this? Is it becoming another Air Miskew, where you work the ramp for 2 years and if your still current / still alive , get passed over by someone more qualified??

Watta ya think?

Why pay to train a contract pilot to come in knowing that they will leave when that first phone call comes, and treat the company like a holding pattern, when you have guys sitting on the ramp (dedicated) for two years knowing they will stick around a lot longer and pay for their own training with a bond :?: :?: :?: :?: BS

Out of curiosity, does Skyward base all crews in YTH or are some in YWG, also, are their medivac drivers doing a 3 on 1 week off schedule??

Sent my resume in and never heard a thing. I have over 1000 hrs on 441 and a current PPC. Not sure what they want but I know for a fact there is not to many 441 drivers around. Maybe its the 1900 they want and not willing to wait the 8 weeks security check for the sim in the states.

Beacon Final,

I think you will be pretty hard pressed to find any job that will start you on the ramp and have you flying by the summer. Unless you are extremely lucky or know someone, I believe a two year ramp wait is not out of the ordinary now a days. But good luck to you.

I dont work for Skyward, but I spent 3 years on the ramp until i got my shot.. :) I cant say that it was a waist of time cause it really wasn`t. I was able to clear all my debt and got to meet some great people. Through working on the ramp i met a guy who gave me a spot on navajo right seat and left seat flying. Since it was private did not need a check out, even though its co pilot time, I sure learned a lot from them. Now I am looking forward to some ``bigger`` stuff!

With patience and determination, anything is possible, all you have to do is stick with it!! :!:

I don't work for skyward but those who do, and those who have worked the ramp. I can say with almost absolute authority that if you started work today in YTH on the ramp for skyward there is a 0% chance you will be flying a plane this summer. Next summer is a slightly more realistic goal. How many lurkers are waiting in YTH right now for a ramp job already?

Do any of you have a clue of what you are talking about? It seems that you all have a bit of info about Skyward and its practices but no one has all the pieces of the puzzle.

YES Skyward does have adds out for pilots.
YES they have hired outsiders.
YES they would like PPC'd guys but not one has been hired with one.
YES a bunch guys have left recently.
ETC......................

BUT let's work with the facts.

Remember they don't have to hire just because they have adds out, not everyone internally has the requirements to be upgraded. Not yet has one from the outside been hired with a PPC. As well A bunch have left recently, but don't forget they all have been there for 3-7 years.

Time for something new don't you think???????????????? No one left at the drop of a hat, all gave their proper notice like nice little boys.

Oh ya as for the ramp guys about fifteen+/- have been put on the flight line in the last 3 weeks and about 6-8 being upgraded. More to come.

So give your head a shake, how many low timers has your company hired?

Thankfully Skyward does. It's been a great opportunity here and we should be thankful that some company gave us that chance to start. Just remember where you came from.
