McGill Study on autopilot and Situation Awarness

Post by Helene Unrein »

Hello,

My name is Hélène Unrein, and I’m a researcher in Human-Computer Interaction at McGill University, working in the Shared Reality Lab under the supervision of Prof. Jeremy Cooperstock.

As part of the Advanced AIRspace Usability (ADAIR) research project, we are conducting a study on the Flight Mode Annunciator (FMA). The objectives are (1) to better understand how pilots maintain their mode awareness with the FMA and (2) to explore new design alternative to better support pilots’ mode awareness.

You are invited to participate in a design session in a group of 3 people, where different low-fidelity design variants will be presented. The goal is to share your reflections about the different designs and generate new ideas that would help support mode awareness.

The session will last approximately 1 hour 20 minutes and takes place on McGill University’s campus in Montreal, Quebec. Sessions are programmed between May 22 and June 12.

You will receive financial compensation of $20 at the end of the session.

To participate in this study, you must:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Speak English or French
- Have a commercial pilot license (active or retired pilots), or currently in training,
- Experience with automated flight systems on commercial aircraft.

If you would like to participate, please fill in this form for your availability : https://evento.renater.fr/survey/availa ... y-8vl1u5fh

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me by email. For your information, this study has been approved by the McGill Research Ethics Board (#26-01-099).

Thank you.
