And if they vote no, watch for their MEC chair to step down

ALPA Reps probably too busy OT whoring to notice what's going on.
#1 VO pilot for the entire airline is the YVR FO Rep. This place is worse than Jazz!

That looks really bad on ALPA. Not supposed to be this way at all. AC Pilots need better reps.AllthatJazz wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2026 11:32 am ALPA Reps probably too busy OT whoring to notice what's going on.

I really hope they don't listen to the government when they order them back to work.

The better question is why are the Vancouver people voting this clown in?737Drver wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2026 1:34 pmThat looks really bad on ALPA. Not supposed to be this way at all. He is coming to an end of his 3 years term. His actions have been pretty surprising and shameful. Hopefully calls it quits instead of trying to stick around like herpes.Avcanada123 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2026 7:58 pmThe better question is why are the Vancouver people voting this clown in?737Drver wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2026 1:34 pmThat looks really bad on ALPA. What is it about ALPA that it seems to attract representatives that are more focused on their T4 than their constituents?dumpsterfire wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2026 8:46 amHe is coming to an end of his 3 years term. And what is it about ALPA that the compensation agrandissement arrangements adopted by and implemented in MEC Policy Manuals are normalized?
If you don’t want to accept the position (either committee or elected) for straight pay then don’t step forward. And do not ever-ever be the pilot with the highest paycheque of the month if you are an ALPA ‘volunteer’.
I sometimes wonder if these individuals (or the collective MEC) honestly believe that their constituents are that gullible.
There are recall provisions for a reason. Go find somebody who’s priority is representing the membership not feeding at the ALPA trough.
Re: Another Aviation Labour Group Issues Strike Notice
I checked the YVR Reps hours and at nearly 120 hrs a month. Will be among the highest paid pilots at the airline at his rate not to mention best paid A220 pilot on the planet. Too bad it took milking the membership to do it with ALPA time. Insanity.

I had a look at this too! RB's hours are way high. Is he picking up VO on his union days?
Re: Another Aviation Labour Group Issues Strike Notice
You don't need to wait until the end of his term to get rid of him. Any YVR member can put a recall motion forward at the next meeting and start the process of getting rid of himdumpsterfire wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2026 8:46 amHe is coming to an end of his 3 years term. what's wrong with doing overtime?

Re: Another Aviation Labour Group Issues Strike Notice
Nothing.
Doing overtime on ALPA days is double dipping though. A rep is supposed to be doing ALPA work for the pilots on ALPA days.
There's also the question of how can a person be productive on ALPA days, then fly most of their days off.
Do they not rest?
Do they not effectively utilize their ALPA days? If there's that much free time and energy on days off, maybe they have too many ALPA days, and are abusing the system?
It's a tough job to be an ALPA representative, so let's not bash someone doing a job most don't want. Most reps are honest, hardworking pilots, who are borderline burnt out, and secretly hoping to be recalled so they can relax.
It's also easy to abuse the leeway given to do the work. So call this person up, and have this conversation. Maybe recall is in order. Maybe not.
Re: Another Aviation Labour Group Issues Strike Notice
OT is a bad look for any unionist. I never understand why any of us would go for more work when we are already dealing with such shitty scheduling. If the company gets desperate enough they will drop your flying and pay you premium too, but someone always seems to step up...
But I looked back a couple years and this guy looks like he had only 2 months with OT, both 100+. Everything else was regular/low hour months so apparently not a regular thing, Probably 2 OT trips across the years the guy has been a rep?
I'm not excusing it, our reps should not be taking extra flying, but at least it's not as bad as it sounds here like he's constantly at the trough. Twice in multiple years? He's a Captain now so probably on his way out the door as FO rep pretty quick anyway...

Re: Another Aviation Labour Group Issues Strike Notice
WJ offered them fairly big raises, pay for duty time, and for waiting for your hotel room. I'd kill for those. I can't imagine how many days of my life I've spent waiting for other labour groups to finish their work so I can start getting paid. They're all getting paid while I'm not.
Re: Another Aviation Labour Group Issues Strike Notice
This VO junkie is #1 for entire company for VO and he is an elected Rep. Even does sim seat fills. Maybe he needs the practice but either way NO Rep in ALPA history has been #1 Overtime whore out of 6000 pilots.altiplano wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 10:27 am OT is a bad look for any unionist. How can an employee group settle after a strike?
I thought Peak Leverage was before shutdown?!
And I thought the cost of the strike would come out of the package offered to the employees?!
All I know is that they better say yes or they will get minimum wage!
