Helicopter Close Call

Post by pelmet »

Again, the hazards of flying low over a lake(glassy water perhaps?)....

C-GKPH, an Airbus Helicopters AS350-B2 operated by Access Helicopters Ltd., was conducting a
VFR flight approximately 9.4 nm NNW of McArthur River Aerodrome (CKQ8), SK. While enroute
flying at a low level over a lake, the right landing gear skid contacted the water surface and broke
apart; sending debris into the main rotor. One main rotor blade was damaged on its trailing edge.
The aircraft landed at CKQ8. There were no injuries.
The aircraft was repaired in consultation with the manufacturer and returned to service.
