Why not include some basic information like salary, minimum days off per month, annual leave, etc. Something worthwhile to know if we should bother coming to the the event in person. I'd hate to waste my time only to find out the pay isn't worth it.overseas guy wrote: ↑Mon Oct 26, 2026 10:47 am If you are free this week and considering any overseas opportunity please feel free to drop in.

Thank you! Salary is lacking quite a bit for a wide body position. Makes you wonder what type of candidates they'll get.
Re: Air Japan recruiting event
Jr Jazz and Porter drivers, insomniac CJ slaves, and maybe some WJ seniority lottery losers.
Re: Air Japan recruiting event
Hey Danno! I found the job you were looking for. It clearly says it’s commuter friendly and they work with commuters!

Starting salary:
F/O - $129,000/yr CAD
CAPT - $213,000/yr CAD

Re: Air Japan recruiting event
So 50% of the salary Canadian 787 drivers are making, and 25% of a US package. Absolutely atrocious.
I think it’s fair to say they won’t be hiring anyone from this continent.
Re: Air Japan recruiting event
Why not? Which Canadian company would allow you to fly a 787 on day 1? All fine and dandy that the eventual salary is twice as high in Canada, but if it takes 10/15/20 years to get there, the financials might look very different. Might be a fun diversion for someone looking to explore another country for a few years.Canadaflyer46 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2026 1:28 pmSo 50% of the salary Canadian 787 drivers are making, and 25% of a US package. As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

Re: Air Japan recruiting event
Any word on APTL license conversion requirements? Medical requirements?
Last time I looked into it, flying commercially in Japan seemed like an absolute non-starter due to the above. Japan is a bureaucratic nightmare, I shudder to think what their version of a Cat 1 medical involves. Asia doesn't really have the concept of "privacy".
Japan is a great place to live if you like the culture, but it is universally considered one of the absolute worst places to work.
The pay is is the least of one's worries.

Re: Air Japan recruiting event
That is some awful compensation for a 787 for the amount of days worked and cost of living in Japan. Now you can argue AC 787 F/O pay is comparable in the first few years, but compensation at AC for F/O's has been an obvious issue for many years. I don't see anyone going for this with experience unless they purely wanted a 787 type rating to then apply to the middle east or other type rated positions.digits_ wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2026 2:14 pmWhy not? Re: Air Japan recruiting event
Not CAD, it says right at the top of the page, wages are in USD. But then it also says those were the 2025 numbers which would be higher in early 2026. I guess it's still early?
Re: Air Japan recruiting event
It's CAD and the new 2026 numbers. I converted the US Dollar amount. Also, they pay for commuting and hotel rooms in Japan on your days off.

Re: Air Japan recruiting event
Quoted straight from the DEC page. I assume tha'ts 18k a month USD?CREW has negotiated a salary increase for both Captains and First Officers, scheduled for implementation in early 2026.
The salary chart at the bottom of the page does not yet reflect these changes. All currency amounts are USD, unless otherwise specified.

$13,500 for First Officers
*Subject to improvements based on annual profit margins.
FULL CONTRACT COMPLETION BONUS (An additional bonus not related to the annual FY incentive bonus) *

For the five-year contract:

That 18k is the contract completion bonus. It says so right there. The payscales are also right there and are atrocious

Yes, I saw that, but they probably updated the Pay chart without updating this quote, because of this statement on the Pay chart:
CREW Air Japan Salary Chart - Salary Increase effective April 2026
The chart below reflects a 7% pay raise for First Officers, and 10% pay raise for Captains. All sums shown are for monthly salary, and paid in USD.

Re: Air Japan recruiting event
I'm confused though... isn't the general sentiment in every salary topic here that Canadian pilots are amonst the lowest paid ones in the world? Pirates of the North and other nicknames come to mind.
Now we have an opportunity for us lowly paid Canadian pilots to go somewhere else, and once again the salaries aren't deemed high enough...
It sure is an interesting paradox!

Re: Air Japan recruiting event
This position is not an entry level one. They want at least 6000 hours TT and 4500 of that Jet PIC for the left seat. More than 3000 hours with 500 of that in a jet for the right seat. You're probably making close to if not way more than that in Canada with that sort of experience.digits_ wrote: ↑Mon Nov 02, 2026 9:21 am I'm confused though... isn't the general sentiment in every salary topic here that Canadian pilots are amonst the lowest paid ones in the world? I hope that helps clear up this complex paradox for ya!

Re: Air Japan recruiting event
I guess you're right, what a strange mish mash of pay and bonuses being in different currencies. My guess is ai put the job ad together or it's a direct Japanese to engrish translation with no proof-read. Garbage money for a job that requires 4500 airline jet PIC and a move across the world.Tbayer2021 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 01, 2026 9:59 pm

Re: Air Japan recruiting event
Could you enlighten us as to where you can make over $213,000 per year flying a dash 8?
I do agree that the pay is low for the experience required… then you add that your only home 10 days, the time change is crazy and the culture shock… lovely place and the people are generally nice. But they have very little tolerance for other cultures and you not doing things their way. So many things we do as normal course will offend people.
