Oh it was closed due to renovation??newfycontrol wrote:That must be why 12/30 has been closed for 6 months...improved the Taxi way from terminal to button of 08R that crosses 12/30?
I had heard rumours that it was closing for good,,, and wasn't it YVR's shortest runway before it closed. would seem silly for the big mama to land of the baby runway?

but i think for press would seem like what it migh be inhere for , Canada being cheaper then the USA and having some of the nicest scenic views in the world from the air,,,
In this industry were in, what goes around comes around.

The 380 is here as part of it's test flying schedual. It's going around the world over both poles as part of the route proving runs.
Paris (ANTARA News) - The Airbus A380 is about to begin a final series of flight tests under commercial conditions that will take it to 10 airports around the world, Airbus sources said Tuesday.
The exercise, beginning November 13, will test the aircraft's ability to operate in airports capable of receiving what will be the world's largest commercial airliner, AFP reported.
Departing from Airbus headquarters in Toulouse, southern France, the A380 will fly to 10 airports, mostly in Asia, in four stages.
On the schedule are test flights to Singapore and Seoul in the first stage, and Hong Kong and Narita in Japan in the second.
In a third stage it will land and take off from the Chinese airports of Guangzhou, Beijing and Shangahi on November 22 and 23.
The A380 will then embark on an around-the-world flight passing over the poles. The aircraft will leave Toulouse for Johannesburg on November 26, then fly over the South Pole on its way to Sydney, Australia where it is due to arrive on November 28.
From Sydney it will cross the Pacific to Vancouver, Canada, arriving November 29, before returning to Toulouse via the North Pole.
The test flights constitute the final step before the A380 receives its operating certificate, which Airbus says could occur in mid-December.
The A380 is facing delivery delays of up to two years because of production problems. Sixteen airlines have ordered a total of 176 A380s.

A380 - YVR
Is this thing still coming on Wednesday?? Anyone have plans to go and see it? Probably will land on rwy 08 E. but who knows?!?!
Anyway, should be some great photo ops when it gets here. No shortage of snow covered mountains. Heck, they could have done their cold weather testing here as well!

Unfortunately the Vancouver Airport Authority believes it would be easier for everybody to just "stay at home"dhc-t2 wrote:Anyway, should be some great photo ops when it gets here. No shortage of snow covered mountains.
Way to show your fanfare! Next time send it to Toronto, that would be equally uninspiring.

No shit eh... Lets take all the fun out of aviation. The days of the enthusiastic young souls standing at the fence at YVR trampled by a Bureaucratic, fear driven society. USA here we come. Website & also as previously mentioned pretty much delivers a message like... Stay the hell home & watch Global TV for coverage. There's nothing nothing for the likes of you people to see here.
Ugh!

"Unfortunately, the A380 visit to YVR is not open to the public. The aircraft will not be visible from any pre-security parts of the terminals and due to the parking position of the aircraft and time of day for arrival and departure, there will be no suitable outdoor viewing points. The public is advised that the best view of the A380 will be through local media coverage. "
