Politicizing the Police

Post by Icebound »

.

Are we truly CRAZY :?: :?: :?:

http://www.canada.com/topics/news/polit ... 7b&k=44136

The Conservatives said Friday they are proceeding with a controversial plan to give police a voice in screening judicial contenders to the federally appointed bench.
Democracy demands that any armed force remain an impartial employee of the people. NEVER should such a force made "decisions", and especially judicial decisions. Their actions are to be governed strictly by the law of the land, not politics... they do not get a voice in writing (or judging) the law that they are supposed to uphold. (There are enough "think tanks" doing it for them, anyway.)

The only "voice" that armed forces have, is in the operation of their very narrow mandate.

This is DEMENTED. One step closer to military dictatorship. Even if the road to actually get there is still pretty far, it is crazy to be taking that step.

"Why should it be that lawyers are the only interest groups involved?" said Toews. "Who can deny that police have a very important stake and interest in the judicial system?"
This shows a complete misunderstanding of the role of Armed services within a democracy.

They are supposed to have absolutely NO "stake and interest in the judicial system". Their interest is supposed to be in upholding and abiding by law; neither writing it, nor interpreting it.

Geez, what IS this guy this guy THINKING? :?:
