Upcoming AC interview offer

Post by Asia Al »

HI,
I haven't been to Canada for years, but AC decided to finally email me and offer me an interview. I am not sure I will take it as my current overseas job is a good gig, but it has me interested.

I have SEARCHED and found out what this interview will consist of with this site. What I am looking for is to pm with someone who has recently been thru the process. If you are interested, please PM me and I have some more specific questions.

For those keeping score, my stats are 6300TT with close to 2000 on heavy jets.

Cheers.

AL

Have a look at pprune.com under the fragrant harbour. Lifes not exactly a bowl of cherries at Cathay these days.

Wow..some responses.

I got the info I was seeking a few weeks ago and I will not be attending. I can't eat the pay cut.
But I was emailed by them, perhaps they don't call international. Either way , it shows how important it is to have up to date contact info.

Best of luck to those who go.

Al

PS..its KA not CX (Dragon)

well, looking at the pay scale, and assuming an upgrade after a couple years, the pay goes up nicely! A320 FO is up to 64K in year 3. that's not too bad. Thing is, at least you have a totally transparent pay scale, and you know exactly where you'll be in 5 years.

My housing allowance on the airbus is 10,000 CDN a MONTH. + salary and everything else

64K for the airbus in year 3 is NOT impressive

I never said it was impressive. I've made more flying pistons. I know that AC is not the highest paying, but where do you have to live to get your huge dollars? I'm assuming your applying to AC because you want to get back to Canada. i'm just saying the 64K in yr 3, with raises every year, you'll be over 100K in not too long. And that's plenty to live well in Canada.

Canada's the best place in the world to live and raise a family, so for me that's a huge factor. And yes I have lived in other countries outside Europe and NA, so I have a relatively informed opinion.

46% income tax scale when you earn over ~$75k and 6 months of dealing with ice and snow.... there are other places that make sense to raise a family too.

Ac Interview

Post by Crazy Afro »

Well Then Asia Al , take your 10k blow it on your hamstercage apt in Asia and stop wasting AC's time so they can focus on people that want job stability, and live in the UN's best place to live where they fit in while working for a company that understands what a collective agreement is, and will upgrade people when they earn it. Rather than having to wait until some pompous brit decides they "mingle" at a social correctly.Nothing Personal- just you guys that like to massage your ego by posting how you have the chance at winning one of two lotteries irritate those that may be waiting for one chance. As if you couldnt find enough info on exams without lording in your own thread.

Heh Afro.

The guy asked a valid point and wanted some info on AC etc. The fact that he has the choice of staying where he is or trying AC. I know a few guys that have been faced with the same situation in recent times and its not as easy as sitting in this forum playing armchair quarterback.

In his case he is a widebody FO, with a very good salary, in a growing company, with early command prospects and most likely a basing back home in the near future. Your view on Cathay/Dragon Air (if thats what we are talking about) is way off, but thats your problem. If he happens to have the experience/type rating on a machine that AC has and they have contacted him, I say more power to him.

Moving to Toronto with a family of four living on the wages AC offers for the first two years may be accrding to the 'UN' as living below the poverty line. Lets look at the big picture here.

Cut the guy some slack.

RB.
Most people being hired at AC are well aware of the sad pay. By and large it seems acceptable to them and for most, a long time dream which took years in the making comes true (evidenced by the thousands trying to get in). Canadian pilots who at some point made that decion to leave and now want to come back obviously didn't really plan to go to AC in the first place. I'm sure if they really wanted in at AC they could live on all that money they made overseas for that first tough year at AC. And hey, if the pay at AC is so bad, why don't they trey going to WJ or AT or Skyservice? Another one of your illusions about AC is that we live in Toronto. Most of us don't, just to bring you up to date. So for those of us who made the decision to stay in the best place to live, life really is that much better.

Hey Tony,

Your missing the point. I left Canada after being laid off from C3000. I have several thousand hrs in passenger jets. There were NO jobs in Canada. Big Red has had my CV for 10 years. They emailed last month.

I have always wanted to work at AC, and buddy, I have paid my dues in the Canadian North to get my time. I have had 2 friends killed I went to flight school with in the 90's in different accidents.

Despite my overwhelming desire to go to AC, the fact is after I researched it a bit and tried to put together per diem, salary and various allowances, I can't take the pay cut.

Another guy over here I know got the email too. He is going to the interveiw to give it a go, I wish him the best.

What you guys back in Canada need to realize is that the world is a big place. And while the UN may shine their torch on Canada, I have been to many fantastic places that beat Canada hands down.

AC offers lifestlye. That's it. I LOVE that, but having a lot of off time and no $$$ is only life with NO style.

PS, for anyone looking for lifestlye, I can get them a interview in HONG KONG on a jet making, 70K USD to start. Min Req. 1500 TT with some Turbine PIC. PM me.

Hey Al,
Sorry it hasn't worked out for you in Canada buddy. Some guys seem to be able to make it work coming home to AC, others can't. Sounds like you're pretty connected and secure overseas though, which kinda brings me back to Afro's comments. Good luck with your future endevours.

Al,

Don't mind Tony's poor excuse for what he thinks is sarcasm. He likes to appear nice to people while trying to sneak in a parting shot or two without much success. He has trouble 'Getting it' as you have pointed out and I have found him also an ace to his credit, at selective reading. He also seems to thinks its easier/cheaper to live in Vancouver versus Toronto on crappy wages. I think he is a Leafs fan too. :prayer: So anyways.........

As you have pointed out AC has not hired for 6 years (plus layoffs), life moves on and people get on with it. You clearly did. People back home get fired up when you A)Consider looking at going back because you have not been waiting your turn putting in your dues etc, B)Decide its not for you due to personal, career or financial reasons. Funny that.

Good luck and just out of curiosity, have a couple of Aussie mates at the 1000 hour mark (all 320 time) interested in living in Asia. Competitive?

Never said that. Most of us live in cheaper towns, areas.
I think he is a Leafs fan too. So anyways.........
Wrong again.
As you have pointed out AC has not hired for 6 years (plus layoffs), life moves on and people get on with it.
I'll give you the benefit of my misunderstanding cause I don't know what the hell you're talking about, we've been hiring for well over a year now and will continue to hire indefinitely so now's a good time to get in....
I guess Al (and you) would like to see AC pay 0ver 100k in your first year and sure while were at it they should pay his way back to Canada and give him that 10k a month housing allowance just so he can come home. I think it's great that some guys want to come home. But I think unlike Al, most guys are well aware of what the conditions are at home and don't have to tell the rest of the world it ain't worth it. Like I said, some guys can do it, others can't.
I also consider the rest of your thread pretty much bullshit ignorance on your part and so in the end you're waisting my time. Tudaloo, Nigel.
