Yep...Just landed and the winds were 28032g44 kts...surprisingly smooth in the descent though...
Hell of a surprise as this wasn't forecast..dispatch advised that all rampies were inside so's to avoid injury from flying objects airside. And as I pulled up to the gate, blowing in the wind was an empty (I hope) Cargo cannister making its way down the ramp...destination unkown!

the veer factor and speed increase on the wind is pretty wild, you would expect that over a 12 hr. period, not 1.5 hrs - especially when it's unforecast :? similar sort of thing was going on at yxt, but reversed.

Yes Flying Nutcracker it was most likely frontal passage. The wind shift, pressure change and later, temperature change usually indicates, in this case, the passage of a cold front. The abbreviation FROPA can be used by the weather observer in the RMK section of the METAR.

Getting hard to ignore this global warming thing affecting the climate.

Now as far as us on the east coast, it's been grand, worked the ramp this weekend, average temp of 11C, now it rained last night and the winds picked up to 40 knots, but the day before it felt like about May 10th. Fantastic weather, I worked the ramp Jan 5th in just a T-shirt, and still broke a sweat.

Leaving YYC this morning was alright, but a bumpy ride it was.

At 350 we were getting bounced around, the type where your head is hitting the roof, wasn't till 410 that it got a tad better. YWG was nice, for a winter day that is.

Bumpy indeed.

But at least you were with the wind going to YWG.

Anyone who goes in there regularly knows that a wind vector and speed like that is going to make for a mighty rough ride in or out!

Today certainly was another windy one! Heard on the radio that Vancouver Marina recorded a gust at 68 kts!

Needless to say, there were many full barf bags coming off the planes today! One of the YVR-YQQ flights even turned back due to severe turbulence.
